    • TRIVIA (1)

    • QUOTES (3)

      • St. Louis Left Fielder Vince Coleman: I come to the ballpark expecting to get on base three or four times, steal three or four bases and score four or five runs. I put a lot of pressure on myself. I know that when we don't have our big shooter (Jack Clark) in there, we have to steal and hit-and-run. But first we have to get on base. I know that if I do what I expect to do, we can win. I think about that. I can't lie. It's what motivates me, what challenges me. Put me in a room with someone and I know I'll come out on top.

      • (on being lifted for a pinch-hitter after six innings of work)
Minnesota Starter Les Starker: I realized he (Manager Tom Kelly) was going to do it, and I accept it. He comes to me and says he's going to take me out for a pinch hitter. He said I threw 90 pitches. And I say, fine. I wanted to win, but I wasn't upset. These things happen in baseball.

      • St. Louis Manager Whitey Herzog: I'm just glad we were able to get enough runs to win. I don't know if we are going to have enough offense to get it done. Our guys are just going to have to go out there and pitch the great the rest of the way.
        .
(on asking Terry Pendleton to bunt in the seventh inning)
St. Louis Manager Whitey Herzog: I told Terry before he went up there I wanted the bunt to stay out of the double play. That was the only real reason for it. A double play would have taken us out of the game and probably out of the Series.
