    • TRIVIA (2)

    • QUOTES (3)

      • St. Louis Designated Hitter Dane Iorg: This is the biggest game of my career, but I've been the 25th man on the roster a few times in spring training and that's more pressure. There were times I couldn't sleep at night in spring training worrying about whether I would have a job or not. That's pressure. This is enjoying the fruits of the big leagues once you get here.
        .
St. Louis Designated Hitter Dane Iorg: You don't want to get this far and fall short. You don't know how many more times you will be in this position when you could win a World Championship. You want it so badly.
        .
St. Louis Designated Hitter Dane Iorg: I like the DH for selfish reasons.

      • (on Lonnie Smith's attempted steal of home in the third inning)
Home Plate Umpire Jim Evans: I had a perfect view of the play. In my judgment he (catcher Ted Simmons) tagged him when his hand was over the plate, but before he got it down on the ground. I had to watch that the pitcher did not balk, that there was no interference by the batter and no interference by the catcher.

      • St. Louis Starter John Stuper: Considering the circumstances and importance of it, this was the best game of my life. I was very nervous, very pumped up, ... wasn't throwing with great velocity, by my ball was moving well.
