This was one of the few episodes with a main storyline. It was still very good. Seeing Claire mess up Phil's brithday was good to see. It was something Phil would do. The highight of the episode was seeing Phil in the dumps. He's so postive that it what makes it so funny. I also like how Jay taught Mitchell to defend himself. I thought it was funny that Jay accidently knocked him out. I also like the chess matches Jay has with Manny and Gloria. I also like the ending when Phil is on his ipad and says "I love you." and Claire thinks it's for her and Phil just plays along. This was an episode that made you like Phil more.moreless

I cannot believe I am writing this, but I actually enjoyed this episode of Modern Family. Since this show premiered in September people have been hyping this up as the next big thing in television and I just don't see it. But this was a funny episode tonight.

People complained about this just being a huge commercial for the iPad, but I did not see it like that at all. It was just a cleverly written storyline with Phil acting exactly how he would in regards to the new toy.

I liked the scene with him at the batting cages. It was very Dwight Schrute-esque with him shouting random things when hitting the ball.moreless

    • Jay: I'm gonna teach him real chess, not the Colombian version. We actually use the pieces to play the game--not smuggle stuff out of the country. Gloria: Eh, I know one Colombian piece you won't be playing with later. Edit
    • Gloria: Are you sure there's not an "E-I" in the middle? Manny: No its "I-E". Gloria: Good, Papi. If I can't fool you, then your teachers can't fool you either. Manny: I don't think they're trying to fool me. Edit
