This was my favorite show for so long, but the last 5 episodes of last season and now these two have killed it for me. No more Modern Family, time to move on.
  • Funny & touching!

I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews for this show/episode
  • Prepare for the Gay Wedding Bells! (Regular Wedding Bells, but at a Gay Wedding)

Sometimes a show will have a great idea. Sometimes that great idea has barely anything done with it and really becomes a waste (Gloria's pregnancy). Sometimes though the idea is used very well. Like super well. And that's what happened in "Suddenly, Last Summer". In the first half of an hour of new Modern Family, Mitchell and Cam both attempted to propose to each other, and it was great! There was a lot of humor in it, and the proposal was so sweet! I loved it! Years from now (probably in like 3 and a half years, but I don't know) when this show is about to end and I make a list of the top however many moments of Modern Family, I'm sure that this one will be in the top 5! So great!

You're now probably thinking, "if he liked it so much, why did he give the episode a 9/10?". Well, there were two more plots to the episode. Did I not like them? No, I did like them. I just didn't like it enough to elevate this episode's rating beyond a 9/10. Phil and Claire were pretty good. So were Jay and Gloria (by the way, the scene where Jay and Manny were in the line was so funny, and when Jay was crying it was so sweet!). These good plots did get completely overshadowed by Mitchell and Cam's great plot.

I wrote a full-length review of this episode and "First Days" because it was a one-hour event and because it was a season premiere. It can be found in Modern Family community; it's titled Modern Family Season Five Premiere "Suddenly, Last Summer/First Days" Review: The Battle of the Proposals.moreless
