  • A Hilarious Modern Family Christmas

    Phil has a problem with making big pronouncements to the kids. He ends up taking away the fmaily's Christmas.
    The hilarious attitude of Cam. My favourite line is when the non-fat Santa says "You were nice. He was naughty."
    Jay and Gloria have different Christmas traditions, so their first Christmas together is not working out as either planned.
    A funny episode with a sweet ending by Alex.

    This was another funny episode. Yet the episode with Luke's birthday, it had bit of a surprise ending but not as big. The part with Cameron and Mitchell was great to see. It was funny seeing Cameron get all of a fluster with the Caroling Group. I enjoyed seeing Phil and Claire try to find out about the burn in the couch. I liked the reason why it happened (I won't tell the spoiler). The best part was Jay trying to keep with Christmas traditions while resisting Gloria's and Manny's ones. Like in previous episodes, it had a nice ending that didn't make you gag.moreless

    It was Christmas Eve, and not wanting to watch that boring old movie It's A Wonderful Life I decided to give Modern Family another try. Yet again I was not only unimpressed, but wanted to go and break my TV in the process. This cast is completely inept at comedy and does not understand how to even tell a remotely funny joke.

    I do not understand at what point people can find this funny? I hate to sound so pessimistic, but I just cannot tell what is supposed to be funny here. Many single cameras on television these days are good, but not this one.moreless

    Yet another funny episode of Modern Family, with some solid, standout moments from just about every character. However, I've mentioned it once before and I'll mention it again: Modern Family needs some type of plot point to beef up the show again. After premiering as the "best new comedy on TV" by critics and audiences alike, Modern Family seems to have already found a comfortable format: find a small minor event that will cause strife within the family, and solve the problem with a heart warming ending (albiet a bit quirky). The thing that made shows like 30 Rock and Arrested Development so powerful is how despite their being good standalone episodes, there was always an underlaying plot driving everything forward. Modern Family has yet to find that, although they have great individual moments.

    I loved the pranks that Manny was playing on Jay, and thought that Cameron and Mitchell's storyline was priceless. The moment where the Santa walks out in suspenders while Jay is at the house was worth the wait. I wasn't a huge fan of Phil and Claire's story, but it was pretty funny to see Phil and his giant threats and not following up on them.

    Overall, I thought it was funny, but I'm just waiting for something a little stronger from the show. The first episode after the break will star Benjamin Bratt so that ought to be interesting.moreless

    • (Phil cancels Christmas) Claire: Phil has a habit of making big pronouncements to the kids. Phil: One time I told Luke that if he didn't put his dirty dishes in the dishwasher, we would put them in his bed. Claire: Phil's problem is follow-through. Phil: We had no more dishes, so we were eating cereal out of a goldfish bowl.

    • Gloria: Look, every country has their own traditions. In our culture, for example, the baby Jesus is the one that brings the gifts, not the Santa Claus. Jay: But that doesn't make sense. How could a newborn baby carry all those presents? They don't even know where their hands are. Manny: At least a baby can fit through a chimney. Jay: How would you sit on the baby Jesus' lap? You'd squish it.

    • (Upset after a run in with The New Greensleevers, Cameron's former holiday a capella group) Cameron: When I was in charge, it was all about the music. I mean, what's with them tossing out candy canes after every carol? It's pandering. Mitchell: I think you made that clear when you tossed them back.

    • Phil: Goodbye, Dunphy Christmas. Haley, I guess you're not getting that car. Haley: I was getting a car?! Phil: No, I was lying, because that's what we do now.
