    • In 1971, Apollo astronauts used a special cordless power drill developed by Black & Decker to remove core samples from the moon.

    • A boring machine used to drill the English Channel Tunnel was buried there in 1991. It was intentionally diverted off the tunnel path, stripped, and entombed in concrete so that another boring machine coming from the opposite direction could finish the job.
