  • The fascinating world of gadgets has progressed historically and was depicted in todays world of inventions. This segment was most interesting for many reasons, from start to finish. I found it to be a thought-provoking show.

The world of invention has progressed so very far. It was refreshing to have Brookstone's sales strategies shared for other marketing companies to consider. It appears that the duos of inventors seem to feed on each other's ideas, thereby affording the ability to more quickly improve their inventions. I wonder what type of financial backing is provided to these individuals, or if they must use their own financial resources to bring their inventions to fruition and out to the marketplace. The historical background of many of these gadgets was most interesting and enlightening. Just seeing the different varieties of cork screws was fascinating. The tiny cork screw used for extracting the stopper from perfume bottles seemed to make evident the diversity of ideas and applications. This segment was most interesting. I found it a bit sad that Mr. Farley's endeavors through the years seem to have been so unrewarded, in that he appears not to have had the support or appropriate finances necessary to further develop his inventions. One would be led to still believe that the old adage "It takes money to make money" still applies, and to the demise of those less fortunate. I feel that our country could benefit so much more if these individuals had the financial backing and support afforded to them so as to further develop and market their ideas. I wonder how many more Mr. Farleys are out there waiting and hoping to be discovered. The gift of an inventive mind has no socioeconomic boundaries. PB
