    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (4)

      • Gangster "Machine Gun" Kelly reputedly coined the nickname "G-Men" while in the custody of law enforcement agents. Short for "Government Man," the heroic G-Men quickly became synonymous with the FBI in the public's imagination.

      • The Thompson Submachine Gun had a few nicknames other than "The Tommy Gun." It was also referred to as "The Chopper," "The Gat," and "The Chicago Typewriter."

      • While awaiting trial for the murder of an East Chicago police officer, John Dillinger escaped from the Indiana Crown Point county jail using a wooden gun he later claimed he made out of a washboard.

      • Before 1934 FBI agents were not allowed to carry guns or make arrests. They also needed the help of local law enforcement to take suspects into custody.

    • QUOTES (1)

      • Narrator: During the 1920s and 30s, in the big cities and small towns, they earned a fearsome reputation in a blaze of bullets.
