    • TRIVIA (5)

      • In 1863, General Joseph Hooker sent more than 20,000 men with horses, artillery and equipment from the Washington area to Chattanooga, over 1,100 miles, by railroad in only 11 days. It was the longest, fastest troop movement in history until World War I.

      • Roughly 70% of the world's breaches are vulnerable to an LCAC amphibious assault.

      • Andrew Higgins sold his fast-moving boats to the Coast Guard during prohibition to help stop rumrunners. Later, Higgins claimed that he also sold his boats to the rumrunners.

      • C-17s supplied 50% of the cargo and more than 4,000 passengers for the United Nations Peacekeepers in Bosnia.

      • Goof: LCAC's are not part of the Transportation Command. They belong to the amphibious forces of the fleet. They dock inside of the big amphibious assault ships and are for the exclusive use of the Marine Corps for transporting troops, equipment and supplies over the beach from their mother ships.
