      • The official name of the Bay Bridge is the James "Sunny Jim" Rolph Bridge, in honor of California governor James Rolph, who died during the bridge's construction in 1934.

      • The enormous amount of rock and dirt excavated from the Yerba Buena tunnel was used to help create Treasure Island, site of San Francisco's 1939 World's Fair.

      • A plaque on the central anchorage commemorates the Bay Bridge's blessing by Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli on October 28, 1936. In 1939, Pacelli became Pope Pius XII.

      • The skyway portion of the new Bay Bridge will cost an estimated $1 billion and support more then 67,000 jobs.
