With the Jets beaten the day before, this showdown in Pro Player Stadium would decide the AFC East Championship. It also was a preview of sorts for the AFC Wild Game of Sunday, Dec. 28. New England, defending AFC Champions, held their ground against the pass-reliant Dolphins.

Chicago had been winless going into this rescheduled game at Pro Player Stadium. Miami thought they had the game under control, leading 33-18. Neither the Chiefs nor the Raiders could afford an 0-2 start. New Kansas City players made the big breaks. After Darren Anderson scored on a 55-yard INT to cut Oakland's lead down to five points, Andre Rison caught the winning TD with 11 seconds to play. This 28-27 game defined the season for both the sprinting Chiefs and the dispirited Raiders.moreless
