I was surprised they killed off Kevin as well. Admittedly he wasn't a particularly pleasing character, but his death did provide Monk with extra motivation to pursue the case, and maybe provided him with some introspection.
Torini was definitely a challenging foe; I'd put him up there with Patrick Kloster (chess grandmaster) as one of the most cunning killers featured this season. He knew how to manipulate the evidence and would have succeeded had it not been for Monk's persistence. And when he knew the detective had him, Torini was prepared to eliminate him. Though this did lead me to wonder: why don't more criminals try to kill Monk when they learn he's on the case? Everyone in the city knows how great a detective he is and that he always finds the evidence - shouldn't they try to bump him off before he exposes them?
