So far I'm liking this episode. I hope she's innocent so something can happen between her and Mr. Monk.

And now I think her mother did it and she's protecting her.

    What language are they speaking?

I know they faked a country called Zemenia. And this is "ripped from the headlines" of the Serbian war criminal they just discovered hiding out. Are they Serbian?

I couldn't tell what kind of Slav the guest star was & I missed her name in the credits. Was she speakign Polish?

the only thing I do know is that it wasn't Russian, but had enough similar words that it's some related Slavic language.

You know what I'm surprised about? No one ever brought up the events of "Mr. Monk and the Bad Girlfriend", where essentially the roles of Stottlemeyer and Monk roles were reversed; Monk was convinced that Stottlemeyer's girlfriend was guilty, whereas Stottlemeyer was convinced she was innocent.

Joanna Pacula who played Leyla is from Poland. I'm guessing she incorporated some into her dialogue and it sounds like they threw a few other languages in as well. It's not a real language. It's just supposed to sound like one. It's Zemenian.

I'm Polish, so I can easily recognise my language

She speaks Polish, but with little strange accent, but what she says, makes sense. After the scene with flag she says: "Beautiful flag. Welcome to America. My name is Leila, and yours?" and so on.

That was a good episode. I was worried after "Mr. Monk Takes A Punch", but it turned out to be exeption.

I wonder why sending her mother (who did it) to jail instead of her became such an issue that she didn't want to have anything to do with Monk.

Wasn't the name of this episode actually "Mr. Monk Falls In Love"?

    Lord Seth: Yes it was.

I thought this episode was a lot like the episode Mr. Monk and the other woman.

My guess is that she felt that her mother had suffered enough in life, and Monk had now added to that suffering against her obvious wishes.

Her mother is probably the most sympathetic murderer/murderess that ever appeared on the show (not since the blind woman in Red Headed Stranger has there been one half as sympathetic).

She's on her way to surprise her daughter, when she come's face to face with the brutal general who butchered her husband, sons, and daughter's fiance. In a moment of passion she kills him with her hat pin. . . . And the mother also confesses, to save her daughter from being found guilty of a crime she did not commit.

She's a candidate for a full pardon if ever there was one.

    Agreed.

Add to that the mother was old. 2 years in a prison where she doesn't even speak the language or know any cultural things might as well be a life sentence for her. Forget shanks and riots, the depression alone would probably do her in.

I thought it was a great ep. Both very funny and a serious good drama one.

I laughed half of the ep at Monk who was so flustered at being in love. Natalie teasing him hehe.

Sad ending. They can make his relationships not work without being this sad, tragic end to them. Go back to your wife thing was very harsh.

I think they should end Trudy storyline and show us how it would be Monk having a steady GF. I was so surprised seeing him not wipe the kiss or not freaking out touching another person.

I really enjoyed this episode. I though it was yet another consistant episode in the humor / mystery / drama departments.

My favorite line is when Monk says to Natalie that he's not used to being around attractive woman, and he's like, you're not a girl... you're Nat!

Great episode with a really heart-felt and emotional ending. They know how to pull those heart strings!

I agree with everyone...this is one of the one I figured out on my own. lol. Felt sad for the mother and understand why the daughter felt how she did about Monk afterwards...but you know he is always going to do his job to the fullest.

Yeah she should have understood a former long time cop would do his job no matter who the killer was.
