Season 6 Episode 10

Mr. Monk and the Man Who Shot Santa

Aired Friday 9:00 PM Dec 07, 2007 on USA

  • Trivia

    • The MacMillan Museum appears again. It previously appeared in the episode "Mr. Monk and the Big Reward," and the building is obviously a different one.

    • Trivia: When Monk is on the roof with Natalie explaining that Santa was on the lookout, a traffic jam is caused by a truck from "Belham Brothers Quarry", the same construction company where Jack Connelly, Steve Connelly's brother in "Mr. Monk and the Buried Treasure," was buried.

    • Despite the fact Kenworthy took a bullet to the shoulder, which was serious enough to prevent him from killing DuBois, he doesn't react at all to the injury during his fight with Monk, even when Adrian slams both fists down on Kenworthy's shoulders.

  • Quotes

    • Monk: Ah, I hate Christmas.
Julie: How can you not like Christmas?
Monk: Well, you wouldn't like it either, if you hated it as much as I do.

    • (about his Christmas in 1964)
Monk: Christmas morning, I got one gift. A walkie-talkie.
Dr. Kroger: Oh, those can be fun. I had a pair of those.
Monk: Not a... not a pair. Dad said I only needed one because I didn't have any friends.
      Dr. Kroger: Oh.

    • Dr. Kroger: What was Christmas like when you were growing up?
Monk: Dark, desperate. Pain was unrelenting, thank you for asking.

    • Monk: I can't live like this. Trial could be a year away. I have to tell them my side of the story.
Natalie: No no no, Mr. Monk. I've heard your side of the story, and I love you, and I don't think it's a good idea.

    • Stottlemeyer: Here is December 19th, 3:45 pm. I am interviewing Adrian Monk.
Garrett Price: Garrett Price for Mr. Monk and I have 3:46.

    • Garrett Price: I think we're going to be okay. I've been thinking about this. It's San Francisco. It's a godless town. Everybody knows that. That's why they visit. Hippies and heathens despise Christmas. All we need is a couple of witches on the jury, we're home free.
      Monk: That's your strategy?
Garrett Price: That's just the beginning.

    • Monk: I don't think "Santacide" is a word.

    • Monk: Don't get me started on joy. When you're older you'll understand. Joy is a trick, a diversion. It doesn't last forever. It breaks your heart every time. (honks horn) Damn joy!

    • Monk: Ah, I'll never make it! Dr. Kroger charges me for the sessions I miss.
Natalie: Well, you can blame it on me.
      Monk: I do that anyway.

    • Monk: (on national television) There's no such thing as Santa Claus...

  • Allusions

    • Monk: He's a very bad Santa.
This is a reference to the 2003 film Bad Santa, starring Billy Bob Thornton as a drunkard and thief who poses as a mall Santa to perform heists.

    • Stottlemeyer: Who would bring an egg to a crime scene?
This is a subtle reference to the classic CBS crime-drama Columbo, in which the title character, a homicide investigator, frequently carried a hard-boiled egg in his coat pocket as a snack.
