Lt. Randall Disher
Captain Leland Stottlemeyer
Dr. Charles Kroger
Trivia: This is the first time that OCD is referenced specifically by name.
Monk mentions the Breinhoff Clinic in Zurich as one of the worlds most famous hospitals of psychiatric disorders, but such a place doesn't exist.
If the file folder had been replaced incorrectly in regards to the location of the tabs, wouldn't it also have been misfiled alphabetically?
Monica Waters chooses D-7 on the jukebox and "I Only Have Eyes For You" plays. If you look at the listings on the jukebox, however, D-7 is actually "Stormy" by CLASSICS IV.
Trivia: Monica Waters chooses D-7 on the jukebox. The song is "I Only Have Eyes For You," sung by Art Garfunkel.
Monk brings his own sheets on his "sleepover" but asks for a pillowcase? He would surely not sleep on someone else's pillowcase.
Monk knew which file was added because there were two "middle" ones in a row. But how did he know which of the two was added? It could have well been the one in front that was added, rather than the one already there. Also, file tabs would not stay in perfect alternating order unless no new files were ever added.
(after Monica busts him for faking taking a bite of the salad and then lying about it)
Monk: Ok. I promise I won't be upset, just tell me the truth. (slight pause) Are you trying to kill me?
Monk: It's ok if you are, I- I just need to know. (raises plate of salad) Is this poison?
Monk: We could have coffee. Or... or... do you eat dinner?
Monica: Yes, I've been known to eat dinner.
Monk: (to Sharona) Do I eat dinner?
Monk: (trying to improvise a cover story) That was Sharona. Her son got the lead in the school play.
Monica: Oh, really? What play?
Monica: Ghandi? Is that a play?
Monk: I think they added a few songs. Do you want to come?
Monica: Oh, I think I'll be having a headache that night.
Stottlemeyer: Monk, I'm sorry.
Monk: You don't have to say that.
Stottlemeyer: Yes, I do. The commissioner's making me.
Monk: (checking his luggage) Toothbrush. Backup toothbrushes. Backup bristles for the backup toothbrushes.
Monica: You're not eating.
Monk: I ate in the bathroom. I had some mints.
Monk: The only danger I'm in is running out of talcum powder.
Monk: How long were you married?
Monica: Oh, look. A jukebox.
Stottlemeyer: (after Grayson is found dead) That's it for Grayson. He's no longer a suspect.
Stottlemeyer: Grayson is the guy. If I had a farm, I'd bet it.
Sharona: I'm not going to come get you in the middle of the night.
Monk: You won't have to get me. I'm not a child, Sharona. (Pause) I can't find my PJs.
Monica: You don't like your food to touch?
Monk: I think most people don't like their food to touch. They just don't have the guts to admit it.
Monk: He's in Zurich, isn't he? At the Breinhoff Clinic?
Monica: How did you know that?
Monk: It's the best hospital in the world for psychological disorders. I'd be there myself. . . but I don't fly.
Monk: Is that impossible, that a woman like her could be interested in me? (Pause) Sharona. . . ?
Sharona: I'm thinking.
Todd Katterskill: You should be ashamed of yourself.
Monk: I am. Twenty-four/seven.
Sharona: You must be joking.
Monk: If I were joking, it would certainly be a lot funnier than this.
Monk: That doesn't make sense.
Stottlemeyer: Does everything have to make sense, Monk?
Monk: Yeah. It kind of does.
Monica: I'm Monica Waters, and you are. . . ?
Monk (flustered): Ummm. . . Me.
Monk: Monk. Adrian Monk.
Monk: May I say . . . if I ever have a garage, I want it to be just like this.
Grayson: I'm calling my lawyer.
Stottlemeyer: Your lawyer's dead, sir. That's why we're here.
Monica: You don't like change, do you?
Monk: I have no problem with no change. I just don't like to be there when it happens.
Music: "Lucky Guy", "There Was A Struggle", "Pebbles And Clues", "My Hero" and "The Kiss" by Jeff Beal
When Monk and Sharona exit the lawyer's office in the final scene (blue door), they are in fact exiting Toronto's historical St. Lawrence Hall. Built in 1850 as Toronto's cultural centre, it was, among other things, the meeting place for the Anti-Slavery Society.
This episode was produced immediately after "Mr. Monk and the Psychic" and before "Mr. Monk Goes to the Carnival," which accounts for the apparent regression of Stottlemeyer and Disher in terms of their relationship with Monk. It was directed by Adam Arkin, who guest-starred as Dale Biederbeck in the first regular episode to be produced, "Mr. Monk Meets Dale the Whale."
Monk: I'm not afraid of change I just don't want to be there when it happens.
This is a send–up of a Woody Allen quote regarding death.
