  • Introduction to Karen Stottlemeyer, and let's nominate Trudy for sainthood!

This is really the first episode centered around Adrian Monk and Leland Stottlemeyer's relationship. Obviously, there's plenty of awkward comedy as both do things differently. In my opinion, the alarm clock scene "7:30" vs. "8:00" is just one of those timeless classic moments you get from a great series like Monk. It's a testament to the creativity of the show's writers as well as Stottlemeyer's cleverness in ensuring Monk's happiness.

Now, obviously... things fall apart once we get to the carpet-vacuuming scene, in which Stottlemeyer gives a showstopping tirade: "DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE? DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE? YOU ARE THE WORLD'S BEST MARRIAGE COUNSELOR! YOU COULD SAVE EVERY MARRIAGE IN CALIFORNIA, ALL PEOPLE HAVE TO DO IS LIVE WITH YOU FOR TWO DAYS! TWO DAYS! AND THEY'D NEVER COMPLAIN ABOUT THEIR SPOUSE AGAIN!". Also, it's funny when he says he'll call the Vatican and have Trudy nominated for sainthood.

Also, the bit on Karen's video is an interesting story thread, as she does another video in "Mr. Monk Gets Fired" (Season 3, Episode 4), and having the time capsule play into the investigation was clever.

    An overall good episode.

in this ep of the show monk monke must investgate the oldest man in the world and how he died he thinks he was murderd and he does it for stadumires wife since she did a documetry on him along time ago and staudmire gets kicked out his house for now sice she thinks he does not pay attention to her and she wants him to see the docmentry and in the meantime he is living at monks house and things start to get out of control and they learn that one guy that is close to the mayors killed a person by hit and run and then bured the letter in a time capusl and he is aressted this was a good ep
  • Monk thinks that a 115 year old man (the oldest man in the world) was murdered and he has to deal with Stottlemeyer who's on the outs with his wife as a guest.

Overall, this was one of the better Monk. It's well written with a great mystery and funny gags and is touching as well with Stottlemeyer and what he's going through. Also, I like the reason Monk keeps the table at a different angle than everything else. Tony Shaloub is both quirky and touching as Monk being able to sympathize yet annoy Stottlemeyer to death. Ted Levine gives one of his best performances as Stottlemeyer giving a multi-dimensional performance that he will never top getting to solve a case for once. The scenes with him and Monk are hilarious as they drive each other crazy. Bitty Schram is fine as Sharona, but really doesn't get anything to do, but she has some funny lines and moves the story along. Jason Gray-Stanford is about the same as Disher. The supporting cast is tops especially Glenne Headly as Karen Stottlemeyer. Funny and touching episode too.
