  • Mick may be a daddy, how will this affect his relationship with Beth? With time running out for a kidnapped little boy, can Mick push past his personal issues in time to save him?moreless

    9.0
This episode, I feel, was not what I expected from a vampire show. Let's face it; we learned from the beginning that vampires couldn't have kids. So it's never even been an issue thus far. But then the writers have cleverly reminded us: Mick was human first. And a human can have children. It's a new twist that has, until recently, not been truly breeched in the vampire world. Sure, Angel had a son, but that was some weird vampire-on-vampire mystical once-in-a-million years thing. But it makes you realize, all the vampires out there started life as a human, they had families, jobs, and even possibly children. Then comes the dilemma. Once you're a vamp, do you visit your kids? Do you go back to your job, back to your life as much as you can or do you cut all ties, let them think you're dead and let them move on? One episode raised all these questions. Not only in our minds, but clearly in Beth's as well. You can see her struggle with this idea that not only may Mick have a son, but a grandson as well. How would you feel if you were in your late 20s dating a guy who looks like he's 30 but has a grandson? The episode also included plenty of drama and action, which is what we've come to expect from this series, and led to some major developments as well. Beth's job, which I believe may lead to some issues with her and Mick regarding treatment of crime scenes and access to them as well. And the possibility that Mick had a son before he became a vampire, which if it ended up being true, had all kinds of strange implications, which you can clearly see both Mick, and to a large extent Beth, dealing with in their own way. Overall, a great episode.moreless
  • Gone, but not yet lost

    8.0
Shortly after this episode aired, the tide began to shift for 'Moonlight". Instead of an apparent lock on a second season, the series was suddenly facing cancellation or, at best, a 13 episode mid-season run. Sure enough, by the time this review was finally written, the show was cancelled and the reported cliffhanger ending to the season (now series) finale will never be resolved.

This episode continues to display the series' strengths, exploring the many facets of the unusual relationship between Mick and Beth that has emerged after the disappearance of Coraline and the death of Josh. Beth was always on the edge of committing her life to Mick's capable hands in every possible way, but now the decision has been straying towards a true love affair. Only the details of a vampire/human relationship, particularly sexuality, seem to be in the way.

Instead of focusing on what Mick and Beth might have, the story focuses on what they cannot have, specifically by exploring what Mick might have had. The kidnapping of a child just happens to involve a man who might be Mick's biological son, based on his younger human exploits. This revelation is not easy for Mick to digest, because that would mean that he betrayed his best friend and fellow soldier back in the Second World War. To top that off, the kidnapped child would be his own biological grandson.

Even Josef understands the lure of such an improbable legacy. If there is any sure sign that Josef is beginning to get more comfortable with the idea of Mick and Beth circling each other so closely, it's the conversation between Josef and Mick over children and what Mick can and cannot provide. Mick is forced by his circumstance to consider what the inability to father children might mean, while Beth's reaction is caught between panic and bemusement.

As much as the episode focuses on Mick and his potential human family, there are stirrings in terms of the growing threat to the vampire world. Ben's interest in Mick is based on the pictures he received at the end of the previous episode, and it's not much of a stretch to consider that his job offer to Beth had an ulterior motive. It's a foregone conclusion that this will factor in the series finale.moreless
  • mick comes to an old home that makes him remember of old memories that were not very pleasane but i thought that it was cool that mick was a bad boy.moreless

i very mick enjoyed watching this episode. i was happy to see mick showing us what his eyes look like when they turn silver. the other part i liked was when mick talked to beth about vampires not being able to have kids. and she joked about nameing her and micks baby already. and him giving a surprised look that she has already decided to have a baby with him. but it was nothing more than a joke because they have slepted together yet. which came to the part where it was funny when she said that maybe sleeping with mick may not be any good. i just love their relationship. i can't believe that some people that are fans of the show are saying that mick and beth are slowly parting i do not believe that is true. i think that they are jsut doing fine without any sex. i hope cbs will give us another season bei i realy love this show. so i hope for

  • A six-year old boy is kidnapped. As the plot develops Mick realizes it might be his own grandson.

This is the first time I watched. I watched because Robin

Thomas guest starred as Robert Fordham, whose son has been

kidnapped. Thomas is very underrated as an actor and often

disappears after one or two scenes. But not this time. He was the main guest star and he appeared in several scenes.

I thought he gave an outstanding performance. I guess the main characters are vampires but that did not bother me. I liked Alex O'Laughlin in THE SHIELD and he seems to be able to carry this show. I will likely watch it again. I wonder

if this show is going to be renewed.moreless
  • combat, friendship, war, DNA test, peeping toms, betraylal. wow i would have to say this episode hit the roof. it was great

wow mick and beth work on a case to finding a missing boy that was taken from his bed in the middle of the night. i have to say mick was one bad boy before he became a vampire. i mean wow i never knew that he would be the type of guy to have a best friend how he really loved but then betrays his best friend and sleeps with his wife. what a bad boy and then thinking that the father that is looking for his son could be mick's son and the young kid could be mick's grand kid. i so love this show but i will be honest i did think that this episode might have been a little weak at first it was really boring until it got to the middle. but i still love this show.moreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Although Julie Fordham, Robert's wife and Jacob's mother, appears at the beginning of the episode, she is absent for the rest of the episode, which is quite odd considering her son has been kidnapped.

    • Beth is offered a job by ADA Talbot as a civilian investigator at the D.A.'s office in this episode.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Mick: That boy who was kidnapped, he might be my grandson.
Josef: Yeah. Well, I hope you get the kid back. Your last contribution to the human gene pool, huh?
Mick: Yeah. I guess he is.
Josef: Unless you and Beth, uh, rewrite the rules of vampire love and figure out how to procreate.

    • Ben: How did you know about the coal chute?
Mick: I grew up in a house like this.
      Ben: Here in L.A.?
      Mick: Yeah.
Ben: And what school did you go to?
      Mick: You investigating me now?
Ben: Depends, you got something to hide?
Mick: No, not anymore. The paparazzi exposed my deepest secrets. Shoe size: ten and a half, favorite color: blue.
Beth: Boxers, not briefs. How did we get on to this delightful subject?
      Ben: We digressed.

    • Mick: About what Josef said ...
Beth: What? That we can't have a baby?
Mick: You wanna have my baby?
Beth: What do you think of Elliot for a boy? ... I'm kidding! Relax. But I mean children are a part of most normal human relationships.
Mick: Our relationship being neither normal nor human. But Josef was right vampires can't have kids, so ... I mean if it's a deal breaker ...
Beth: Oh, whoa whoa. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves. I mean we haven't even slept with each other yet. It may not be any good. (They smile at each other)

    • Mick: Ben? Wow. (laughs) Should I be jealous?
Beth: Of course. Even if I have no romantic interest in him, your jealousy makes me feel desirable.

    • Mick: So are we going to find your designers at the bottom of the tar pits?
Josef: Mick. Please. I don't have the energy to kill everyone that pisses me off. I have to hire some people.
