Why are the seasons for Moonlighting so dramatically short? I've heard all kinds of excuses from "on stage fights" between the stars to "writers strikes," to Cybil's pregnancy, etc. Why, if any reason can be explained, were the seasons only 13-15 shows, when common seasons at that time were around 22-25 shows per season.

I even noticed that Bruce Willis' character makes a joke of it to the audience, I think in Season 4, saying: "and we'll never get 22 episodes per season," or words to that effect.

    What gives?

I think it's in season 5, Plastic Fantastic Lovers.

    Maddie: It's impossible.
David: No, 22 episodes a season is impossible!

They say it's because they (I'd guess the writers as well as Glenn Gordon Caron) would rather do less episodes of better quality. Which they imo did.

I think they also had trouble fitting in everything they wanted to do in each episode in the usual time required..the shooting schedule became longer and longer. Other things that happened to slow up the show was the Cybill became pregnant and Bruce broke his collarbone skiing. Just some of the reasons I have heard
