Continuity error: During the scene when Agnes and Maddie go drinking, watch as the bartender takes the order and places both drinks down.
Then the camera cuts again to a view of the bartender putting a glass in front of Maddie.
Afterwards, it's back to a view of the women sitting there. Check the bar, though: it appears as if there's only ever been one drink by Maddie.
It's not happy hour, since the story indicated it was late at night when they went to the bar. Also, Agnes has only one glass at this point too. It's obvious someone forgot to edit out the second shot of the bartender.
During the fistfight between Sam and Dave in the garage, even though Sam is standing in half the frame, it is clear David's right shoulder hits the wall first when Sam throws him. Yet later on, when David is in Maddie's room and he talks about taking "these pain pills," he feels his left shoulder.
(In the last second before the opening credits roll)
Narrator: Which brings us to... tonight!
(Before a clip of the truck scene from 'Maddie's Turn to Cry')
Narrator: And suddenly... Maddie and David find themselves embroiled in one of those silly chases they like to do on Moonlighting!
(The episode intro, a la old movie houses, is a 'news' announcement over stock footage of trains, cheering throngs, mock burials and finally, real episode clips. Before long, the reader just snaps.)
Narrator: Meanwhile-- (sound of needle being ripped off record) Oh, hell, you can read the card.
Sam (to Maddie): I'm not saying you don't want to be married. I'm just saying maybe it's not to me.
(As Sam and Maddie leave, after the fight. Sam is driving.)
Sam: For what it's worth, I didn't take the first swing.
(David rushes to the garage to stop Sam and Maddie before they can leave for dinner. He sees her car. Sam is driving. David jumps in front and Sam hits the brakes.)
David: Maddie—
Sam (getting out of the car): Come on, what are you trying to do?
David (to Sam): This has got nothing to do with you! (to Maddie) Get out of the car. I just want to talk to you!
Sam: But see, she doesn't want to talk to you.
David: Butt out, Buck Rogers!
Maddie: Go away, David.
(David scrambles over the hood of the car and tries to get in the driver's side door. Maddie screams and gets out.)
Sam: Maddie?
Maddie: I can't deal with this, I can't deal with this! (Runs to the elevator.) Leave me alone, both of you! (The door closes and she is gone for a few minutes.)
(Sam turns to face David.)
Sam: David, why don't we just stop?
(He taps David on the arm. David slaps his hand away.).
David (irate): Get your hands off me, pal.
Sam: How about me and you take a walk around the block?
(David nods a little, as if to accept. He even takes a step and turns away. Then he leans into a full-on punch into Sam's face. Crawford just stands there and blinks for a second. He proceeds to block David's shots, land a flurry of punches and finally throw David into the wall. David sits up, pressing his split lip, and rejects Sam's offer of a hand up.)
Sam: You're an ass, you know that?
David: All I wanted to do was talk to her.
(Maddie comes out of the elevator.)
Maddie: I want the two of you-- (Notices Addison on the ground.) Oh my God, David!
(She puts a hand down to help him get up. He rejects this one too, and stands on his own.)
David: That's me! Missed it, Maddie. The fight of the century. The barrage in the garage. TKO, S.O.S., S.O.B. That's me. (Grabs his shoulder, which hurts from the throw. Starts to walk across the garage. Maddie glares at Sam, and turns to watch David go.)
David: Came down here because I wanted to talk to you… Two. I didn't realize how busy you were, but now, of course, I realize how busy you are. But I'm fine, I'm great, really, I'm just—walkin' along, singing a song-- (Croaks aimlessly) 'I'm singing in the rain, singing in the rain...what a glorious feeling, I'm happy again!'...
(In David's office. He's trashed it after his earlier argument with Maddie. Agnes and Bert go try to talk some sense into him.)
Agnes and Bert: We just thought…
Agnes: There might be something you want to say…
Bert: To Ms. Hayes--
Agnes: While she still is Ms. Hayes.
(The two detectives have run into Maddie's office after a fight in the hall and the front room)
Maddie: You run around here making speeches about how you're the jilted lover, how the world is coming to an end! Well, you're not the jilted anything, David, you won't even put yourself in the game! Am I supposed to think that because you chased me down the hall, that you care about me, that you don't want me to marry Sam?... Right. Now it's my turn. Only this time, I'll chase you. (Places her hand on his heart and pushes him backwards across the room) How do you feel about me, David? How do you feel about all this, David? I have a right to know, don't I? Don't I? (Pause) Yes. He asked me to marry him. No. I haven't said yes yet. But yes, I'm thinking about it. He's willing to make a commitment to me, David. How about you? If you want to leave, then leave. If you have something to say, then say it! (Pause) Come on, David. Speak now or forever hold your peace! (He says nothing) Right! Are we through?
David: Sure looks like it.
Maddie: Sure does.
Maddie: What are you doing here, Miss Dipesto, it's late!
Agnes: I don't know. I just didn't want him to come in here tomorrow and find this mess. He's so--
Maddie: I know. (Pause) You're a good person, Agnes.
Maddie: Maybe it's not possible to know if you're ready for marriage. Maybe it's only possible to know if you're not.
Maddie (to Agnes): I don't know. Not only do I not know, I don't even know why I don't know, you know?
Agnes (to the detectives as they run back in the office, following their fight in the hallway): You're back!
David (to Agnes): You're right!
Maddie (to David): You're scum!
David: All right, maybe it is none of my damn business, but I've got a right to know!
In the 2008 Emmy awards, David and Maddie's sex scene, was in the list of the Most Memorable Drama TV Moments. However, it didn't make it to the second round.
This episode was originally titled "The Big Bang," but ABC nixed the idea.
The episode opens with a "Movietone News" newsreel segment that makes light of the long delay between new episodes (caused partially by Cybill Shepherd's pregnancy and a ski accident in which Bruce Willis broke his collarbone). It also features clips from the first three parts of the story arc.
Music: "La Bamba" by Ritchie Valens; "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge (included on soundtrack); "Stormy Weather" by Billie Holiday (included on soundtrack); David sings "Singin' in the Rain" by Gene Kelly; "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes
The episode takes its name from the 1960s erotic film "I Am Curious...Yellow." This was done as a sarcastic rebuke to the network, which had made them alter the original title, a ribald pun ("The Big Bang").
Except for a brief time in the early morning, (shown at the beginning of the episode, when Maddie is wearing a coat and nightshirt), Maddie wears a yellow dress for the rest of the day. This is a visual reference to the film title.
