    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (4)

      • The scary stories that appear within the book Tales of the Unfamiliar are "Attack of the Tree Huggers," "The Flesh-Eating Catholics" and "The Spine-Chilling Lies of Charles Darwin."

      • This is the second time that the Pious Scouts, the group which Orel belongs to, have appeared within the series, the first time was in "Waste." The only differences are that the leader has slightly different glasses and hair, and previously there were more members.

      • When the Pious Scouts ignite the camp fire, the flame starts out extremely tall. However, after a few camera-angle changes, the flame disappears completely and it is only when they are about to extinguish it that it re-appears.

      • The opening credits shows Orel opening a book with autographs written on the front. After a brief pause on a blank page, a lightening bolt comes down from above and strikes the page, leaving the word GOD written on it.

    • QUOTES (1)

      • Orel: Wow, it's the fictional missing link from the ghost book.
Doughy: Say, that should take care of our coincidence badges.
        Orel: And our melting badges.

    • NOTES (3)

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • Intelligent Design
The whole "Geniusis" movement is a reference to the "Intelligent Design" movement, a creationist group that teaches the truth of the Bible's Genesis story.

      • Tales from the Crypt
The book that the Pious Scout leader reads to Orel and the rest of the group has an almost identical design to that of the William Gaines EC comics Tales from the Crypt. An extremely popular horror television series of the same name was later created for HBO in 1989 and ran until 1996.
