Welcome to the Mother and Son guide at TV.com. Who could ask for more from a situation comedy series? Being the receptionist of Australia's most prestigious television awards, the Logies, Mother and son won on numerous occasions as most popular comedy series in it's 10 year run. The series focuses around the Beare family, of Sydney, and all the sticky situations that can arise when you have a mother (and a mother in law) who will do anything to get her own way...even if that means being devious and cunning. Ruth Cracknell plays the role of the cantankerous and forgetful mother, Maggie Beare who on many occasions has fooled her sons into believing she is more sick than she lets on...only to get her own way. Garry McDonald plays her very long suffering son, Arthur, who still lives with Maggie even after 35 years, and is yet to find a relationship without Maggie spoiling it somehow, and does his very best to care for Maggie. Henri Szeps plays the black sheep of the family, Robert, Maggie's eldest son, who would rather spend Christmas with his stockbroker than his own family, and who can forget Judy Morris, who deliciously portrayed Robert's snobby, migraine ridden wife, Liz.moreless
