The killer: Doug Slater, the victim: Samantha Turner
Samantha is a prosecutor who is also Sergeant Mark Cross' girlfriend. She is the lead prosecutor in the upcoming trial against the League of Nations gang which Mark infiltrated in a two-year undercover assignment. Doug Slater was also involved in taking down the gang and, in addition, was the first responder in a shooting ten years ago. The officers on the scene were Angie Flynn and Mark Cross and the truth of what really happened there has haunted Angie and Mark to the present day.
The killer: Dustin Hess, the victim: Lori Oliver
Lori is a successful, best-selling crime novelist, while Dustin is a creative writing professor at Langara College. He thinks very little of Lori's work and puts it down most any chance he gets. When Lori collapses and dies at a book signing and Betty soon determines that she was poisoned. The poison is slow acting and symptoms can take up a 20 days to show, leaving the detectives with a lengthy timeline to investigate.
The killer: Bryce Kovack; the victim: Joey Dunkamp
Dunkamp is a successful high-end real estate agent who is found shot in the chest from close range at his posh office. Bryce, his brothers Brent and Donnie and their sister Erin, are an extremely tight-knit family who, now that their parents have passed, still share the home where they grew up. Erin is home from college. As the team begin to look into the life of Joey Dunkamp, they soon realize that he was involved in a series of shady loans and odd arrangements with his various clients.
The victim: John Rivera; the killer: Isabelle Flores
John, the the chairman of the Green Point Equestrian Centre, is found trampled to death in the stables. The death may have been ruled accidental but, in her autopsy, Betty found huge quantities of the animal tranquilizer ketamine in his system. Had the horse not trampled John, the ketamine would have killed him. Isabelle is the nanny to Becky Hill, who, with her mother Victoria, are the newest members of Green Point.
The victim: Barb Birk; the killer: Sasha King
Barb was the owner of her own diner, in whose kitchen her charred remains were found. Sasha in an ex-employee of Barb and currently lives and works at a women's shelter. The fire was started in the early morning on a day that the diner was closed. Suspicion initially falls on the victim's son, Jason Birk, whose lighter was used to start the fire.
The victim: James Dent; the killer: Peter Ward.
Peter is the home care nurse for Olivia Dent, who is ill with auto-immune kidney disease and is James' mother. James is found brain dead in a rehearsal hall, which Olivia let him use in the hopes that he would use it to earn a living and make it on his own. The murder scene suggests that James brain death occurred from auto-erotic asphyxiation.
The killer: Paramedic Stuart Fletcher; the victim: Graeme Jenkins
Jenkins, who died in a skydiving accident, turns out to be a 40 year old man dying of terminal cancer. He dies because both of his parachutes were sabotaged and failed to open. At first, suicide is considered as the team finds it hard to believe that a terminally ill man would end his life in the middle of his bucket list activities. More puzzling is the fact the team cannot find a place where the two men might have met. Meanwhile, Angie provides Oscar with the police file of what happened between her and Cross ten years ago.
The killer: Heather Williamson; the victim: Jake Daly
Heather and Jake, a bartender, are boyfriend/girlfriend. Heather and her business partner, Gordon White, are founders and principals of a web communications company. As the investigations begins, the detectives have no body, only a bloody crime scene that suggests someone was viciously murdered.
The victim: Emily Williams; the killer: Jeannine Boxton
Emily and Jeannine were best friends and, up until recently, Emily dated Jeannine's brother, Aiden. Six weeks ago, something happened in Emily's life that caused her to break up with Aiden and change her mind about a university track scholarship. The killer: Diane Torrance; the victim: Coroner Dr. Stan Matthews
Dr. Matthews, who was Betty's colleague and mentor, is found in a parking with seven stab wounds. As Betty comes to grips with the murder, she is also tasked with taking over as the expert witness an Stan's latest case, a four-year old child who was apparently murdered at a party by his drug dealing father, Brad Hitchens.
The killer: Damian Cutter; the victim: Alicia Barclay
Alicia, the wife of Peter Barclay who, along with Kurt Taylor, owns the High Rollers online gaming site, is found dead on a beach wearing a cocktail dress. As Flynn and Vega dig into the case, they discover that the Barclays and Taylors were at a party on a yacht the night before and that each of them has secrets as well as a motive for committing the crime.
The killer: dance studio owner Sophia Balfour; the victim: drug dealer Dustin McEvers
McEvers is found shot to death in the basement of Miles and Sophia Balfour. Miles tells police that the victim was a home invader and that he shot him in self-defense.
The killer: Ian; the victim: Kevin Carpenter.
Detectives Flynn and Vega investigate the death of Carpenter, who returned to the city after spending three years traveling through the Far East. A cryptic note, “I never had the courage until now,” is found in the hotel room where the victim died. Meanwhile, Angie is upset that Sgt. Kevin Cross, someone with whom she has history with, is the new team leader after the recent promotion of Boyd Bloom to Superintendent.
