Episode Summary

EDIT
Mr. Bean's Red Nose Day
AIRED:
Nicknamed "Red Nose Day," this yearly special has drawn upon the comic talents of Britain's best farceurs, all donating their talents for the cause. The March 15, 1991, edition of Comic Relief featured, among many others, Rowan Atkinson, repeating his familiar characterization of the clueless, disastrously clumsy Mr. Bean. Atkinson's contribution, the six-minute skit "Mr. Bean's Red Nose Day," has unfortunately not yet been reissued to home video.moreless

  • Not part of the TV series itself, this little 6-minute "filler" has Mr. Bean at a police station on a Red Nose Day.

Mr. Bean's car has been broken into, and he is trying to explain to the police woman what was taken. Of course, there's "sponsored silence", which means he can't speak and has to mime it to her.

I kept wondering: why can't Bean write it down for her?

Either way, other than waving the "Sponsored Tea Drinking", "Sponsored Godpiece Wearing" etc. signs around, that is about as amusing as this episode gets.

The mime part is okay, but not the best Bean and Rowan Atkinson have to offer. Perhaps it was the script that didn't work this time around, or the attempted concept.moreless
