Convinced that Peepers spends too much time reading and too little time in the gym, Coach Burr starts him on a rigorous exercise regimen. Meanwhile, Mr. Gurney is desperately seeking a competent chess player to represent Jefferson Junior High School in a local match against its arch rival. Thrilled to learn that Mr. Peepers is the Tri-State Chess Champion, Gurney insists that Peepers play in the tournament, despite his previous commitment to deliver a lecture to Mrs. Gurney's Wildflower group.
