Sitting in at Number 3 on our list of Most Anticipated New Summer Shows was USA's Mr. Robot, a hacker drama from a producer of True Detective. We thought we'd have to wait until June 24 to see the first episode, but no! USA put the whole hour-long pilot online today for anyone with an Internet connection (and possibly within a particular region) can watch it today.
The series, which won the audience award at SXSW this year, stars Rami Malek (The Pacific) as a nervous programmer whose skills for breaking firewalls and cyber security lands him with a hacking collective looking to screw with the richest of the rich who control the world. Christian Slater also stars as the head of the cyber-vigilantes. Watch it!
Mr. Robot makes its television debut on June 24 on USA Network.
The cinematography is similar to an indie film most of the time, but that gives it a certain feel of "quality tv" being the right choice to portray the world through Elliot's eyes (is it a coincidencende taht his initial is an E, just as Evil Corp?)
I'm a little worried about Christian Slater's record of cancelations, and his character is a little too over the top IMO. But he certainly made me know more about him and his group of hackers.
Also intriguing was the possible nemesis (the deputy tech VP or something like that), he seems to be just as good and capable as Elliot but working for E Corp.
Here's hoping the show gets good ratings so we can explore this very interesting world.
Fight club = F society
Brad Pitt/ Edward norton = Elliot and Mr. Robot
Brad pitt (Tyler Durden) was imagination of Edward Norton
Mr. Robot Could be an imagination of Elliot.
Brad Pitt Wanted to Destroy buildings that keep records of credit card companies to remove all debts.
Mr. Robot wants to destroy E corp which will erase 70 % of all the debts.
Elliot:I understand. I'll try harder.
When he goes for the "first" time to that Coney island Society Hack Club with Mr. Robot and Mr. Robot knocks, dude who opens door,ONLY looks at Elliot. Then when they are inside, again those people only look at Elliot. No one reacts to Mr. Robot or even looks in Mr. Robot's direction.
Next time Elliot visits that place and girl is smoking,he asks her "where's your boss" and she says "ok,cut the bs,when are you gonna give us access to root directory".
Only time Mr. Robot interacts with people and they react to him,is with those 2 "man in black" dudes, when Elliot was spying on his shrink and her boyfriend at Loti's. But that could just be Elliot imaging all 3 or put a face on homeless person asking for money.
then this little gem popped up out of nowhere and the core shook, it's still shaking
I can't wait, to watch more of this dark, technically compelling, hilariously funny show
now if you'll excuse me I'm off to buy a hoody and make some changes to my facebook profile.......
The writers are also obviously trying to make a hero out of an economically illiterate buffoon that doesn't grasp that their desire to get rid of debt will trash the jobs of the poor&middle class and hurt them far more than the wealthy will be hurt. He is a nihilistic anarchist sort that seems to want destruction for destruction's sake due to jealousy or hatred of whatever of the world, which granted may draw in followers, but that is different from their obvious intent to make us sympathetic to these folks. It is possible to come up with intelligent conspiracy theories where suspension of disbelief allows you to accept some of their misguided assumptions, but there is a difference between that and a show written by writers utterly clueless about how the real world works.
So yeah, i'm really looking forward for this show =)
Also, and this made me laugh: Was that Carly Chaikin (Dalia Royce, from Suburgatory) claiming to have written the rootkit? lol Love her, and it's hilarious to see the vastly different character I'm assuming she'll be playing.
From hte characters, the photography, the setting, the general atmosphere, I just love it.
I watched the pilot on Twitch.tv and the interview after was really intertesting, especially to see how the creator of the show seems to care about this show.
I hope they deliver a great first season, I need more good show to watch. :)
when you hear that saying 'the 2nd golden age of TV'..that TV quality is better than the movies today.. this show is in that conversation now! (and its only a freaking pilot!!!).
along with Hannibal, the Amerikkans, leftovers, ... this show does not dumb down for audiences.
the highest compliment that i can give it, is that i watched it TWICE! .. & obviously winning the coveted audience prize at SXSW in March was valid compliment enough.
if this season lives up to expectation.. "Modern Masterpiece" is the likely tag it will surely have to embrace.
Voice over is perfect and it takes you trough the show by the hand but not entirely baby sitting you, just enough to tip you of the balance or push in the right direction.
It's like they took best elements out of Rubicon (god I loved that show) and just dial up on the action, oh the action! Intensity! No need for crashing car and burning plains in the sky, you could've cut the tension with a knife.
Yep, I am loving it
