  • If You Think That's Hot, Check This Out!

This is another mediocre episode where the writers had to shoehorn today's subject into the plot where the Muppet Babies discover the wonderful world of animation.

The kids discover Scooter inadvertently created a flip book with his computer drawings. They grab piles of continuous form computer paper (the same kind my dad would bring home from his 1985 job as a computer programmer and we'd use the blank sides to draw on) and make their own flip books.

Nanny enters and leads the kids out to the hall closet where she presents them with an old 8mm movie camera that is somehow capable of taking still frame shots. They set it up in the nursery and commence in furious drawing of their own animated pictures.

Piggy is doing her own version of Pinocchio with a love story between the wooden female puppet, played by Piggy of course, and Kermit as Jiminy Frog. Gonzo pulls off the Blue Fairy with his usual eccentricity.

Gonzo fantasizes having his own animation studio but his new creation, a mouse, steals his pencil, escapes and runs loose in the animation world. Gonzo panics when he finds himself trapped in his own cartoon. Piggy brings him out of the fantasy.

The kids sing today's song, "We Love Cartoons," which is just OK, not very memorable.

Rowlf makes his own form of art by running paper through the paint coated hammers of his piano while he plays.

By pointing the camera at his computer screen, Scooter can create computer animation. Animal keeps interfering but Scooter learns to appreciate his friend's rather messy aesthetics. Animal directs Fantasia paintbrushes carrying buckets of paint in an unmistakable reference.

Skeeter experiments with claymation but our time's up and Gonzo declares he's ready to call it a day.

"Go bye bye!" End Tag: Black and white flipbook drawings of Animal's face flash down the screen until the real Animal reaches in with his pink eraser. "Go bye, bye!" He turns and laughs over his shoulder at the camera.moreless
