  • Robert Louis Stevenson Goes to Broadway

    3.0
The posted recording on YouTube is incomplete. The opening title sequence is missing. The first scene is already underway. Today's adventure is a complete Goonies rip-off as the kids fantasize pirate adventures with a singing and dancing number thrown in for no good reason.

Hard open on Nanny who is standing in the nursery doorway; famous inquiry, "Is everything all right in here?" Piggy answers they are collecting stamps. Nanny seems suddenly preoccupied. She opens the nursery closet muttering about misplacing something that she thought might be in the attic or in here but it's gone. She leaves and the kids imagine whatever Nanny is looking for must be incredibly expensive, like buried treasure full of gold and precious jewels. They decide to rummage the attic themselves and surprise Nanny with whatever they find.

It takes several minutes just to get up there as climbing the attic staircase is as intimidating as climbing Mount Everest complete with an imaginary abominable snowman played by Animal.

Once in the attic, the kids fantasize meeting a stereotypical male pirate, Captain Pegleg. In a "Goonies" rip-off, they find the secret entrance to the subterranean lagoon and pirate ship holding Nanny's treasure guarded by three female "Pirettes" with over-the-top cockney accents that would put Johnny Depp to shame. They distract the female pirates with big dreams of making it big on Broadway thanks to today's easily forgettable song, "Pirates are all we want to be" They succeed in escaping with the treasure in their getaway rowboat, to the dismay of the Pirettes.

They open the trunk and find old clothes, antiques, and an envelope with old stamps that Scooter declares will make a great addition to their collection. He shows Nanny the envelope when she enters. Turns out she was looking for her old baby photos which fall out so Scooter inadvertently found the treasure. Very anti-climactic.

"Go bye, bye!" End Tag: Animal has just finished painting a black X on the ground. Gonzo enters and commences digging himself into a deep hole where the treasure awaits. Animal says "Go bye, bye!" and crawls away just as we cut to stock footage of an eruption of Old Faithful while Gonzo squeals off-screen. This is the same one used in S2 E3 "Fozzie's Last Laugh"moreless
