  • The Correct Title is "What's New At The Zoo?"

    5.0
This is another slow episode that just doesn't flow very well. The message about zoos helping to correct overpopulation is a bit explicit but saving the planet didn't become cool until the 80's, anyway. All the kids take turns identifying their favorite animal and Gonzo worries he might be an anteater.

The Muppet Babies are playing safari, caching Animal the lion and debating the moral ethics of whether or not he should be donated to the zoo. Rowlf is definitely against zoos. Nanny enters and reassures Rowlf and the other kids that zoos are okay. She gives them (yet another) book to look at and leaves.

Everyone takes turns imagining their own favorite animal scenarios. Piggy likes flamingos because they remind her of ballet. Skeeter likes chimpanzees; apparently primates excel at sports.

After the Chimp Olympics, Fozzie leads his friends in making funny faces before announcing his favorite animal. He discovers hyenas don't always laugh at everything and Gonzo must defuse the giant tomato bomb created by his bad jokes which results in a big mess.

Scooter likes zebras and everyone puts in their two bits about how this animal got its stripes.

Rowlf is more depressed than ever so the others sing today's song "Animals are my Favorite People" which is just OK but it does help Rowlf feel better about zoos.

Discussion turns to endangered species and Gonzo panics because he doesn't know what kind of animal he is. He imagines what it might be like eating out with a family of anteaters and nearly gags. He realizes if he is an endangered species, the zoo would be the best place to go for safety and protection. Rowlf agrees that zoos aren't so bad after all.

Animal imagines a world in crayon (Gonzo prefers finger paint) populated entirely by animals that act like humans. Everyone enjoys the visit.

Nanny returns and announces she'll take them all to the zoo tomorrow.

Hope they remember to say "hi" to Erma.

"Go bye, bye!" End Tag: Animal and Piggy are sitting on the nursery sofa. Piggy is reading a book when Gonzo walks up and plops himself down next to her: "Wouldn't you like to be closer friends?"

Piggy's response is to take a giant leap while Animal says "Go bye, bye!" Piggy catapults Gonzo off the sofa. Animal laughs his trademark laugh.moreless
