  • Anthony LaPaglia saves the day.

After a hesitant first episode it becomes clear here what this season of Murder One is all about. The only reason to watch this is Anthony LaPaglia/Jimmy Wyler. All the other elements feel like warmed-up leftovers. There are plot lines and characters that resemble stories and people of the first season: a powerful businessman who can control politicians, a mysterious wife with a secret, important witnesses that wind up dead, ... What's worse, most main characters that have returned from the first season have nothing to do. Pity the lawyers of Hoffman & Associates, because the writers don't know why they're there. Thank God for Jimmy Wyler, excellently played by LaPaglia, the former DA driven by personal demons. His love life doesn't drag the show down to soap opera levels, like Hoffman's did. His feisty mother brings a touch of sarcasm and wit.
