  • Jessica's entangled in more foreign intrigue with Michael Hagarty. Fortunately, the chemistry between Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou is perfect.

I'm not a huge fan of these episodes, wherein Jessica is roped into playing a part in an international spy caper thanks to her friend Michael Hagarty. The result is usually a half-baked spy story and a very weak murder mystery. That was the case in Season 5's "J.B. as in Jailbird" and it is certainly the case here.

However, watching Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou (old pros who starred in "Sweeney Todd" together) play off each other is a lot of fun. Like Lansbury, Cariou is an actor who is better than the script and has fun with it. He doesn't look the part of a rugged MI6 agent, but you can almost buy the fact that he has a James Bond-type lifestyle. Thumbs down to the murder in this one, which is almost an afterthought to the job of freeing a captive agent. But for the performances of the leads, it's worth a look.moreless
