The arcade game Ethan is playing in the grocery is 'Spy Hunter' by Bally Midway.
At the beginning of the episode, Jessica is seen riding her bicycle past a sign that reads: CABOT COVE POP. 3560.
Jessica does not have a driver's licence, and walks or bikes anywhere she needs to go in Cabot Cove. She also jogs every single morning.
This episode features the introduction of Cabot Cove citizens Cora McIntyre, who works at the local grocery (McIntyre's), Daniel O'Brien, his nephew Tony Holiday, and their close family friend, Katie Simmons. Daniel has lived in Cabot Cove for six years, and is still considered a stranger by many of the long-time residents, because he wasn't born there. This is the second mention of the never-seen Letitia, the phone operator of Cabot Cove.
Tony Holiday: Ms. Fletcher, uh, anything new on the investigation? Jessica Fletcher: Oh, Sheriff Tupper's exploring several possibilities? Daniel O'Brien: Got out his old Ouija board again, huh?
Ethan Cragg: Jess, I'm worried about Amos. I think he's in over his head. Jessica Fletcher: And you think he'd like some help. Ethan Cragg: Well, he sure is clearing his throat a lot. Jessica Fletcher: Clearing his throat? Ethan Cragg: Come on, woman. You play checkers with him. Every time he doesn't know what to do he starts to clear his throat. (sniffs) I've never told him about that little habit, 'cause I play poker with him too. (takes a bite of the cookie)
(Ethan comes in to tell Jessica that Dean Merrill was hit by a car.) Jessica Fletcher: The same car from the picnic. Ethan Cragg: Nobody knows 'cause nobody saw it, but a little while ago Ernie Tatum's kids saw that same station wagon headin' north on -- (Jessica hands him a cookie) thank you -- on the county road. Jessica Fletcher: Were they sure? Ethan Cragg: Kids have a way of remembering when they see a car guzzlin' along with no driver at the wheel.
Dean Merrill: E -- Excuse me. Pardon me. Ethan Cragg: Oh, good afternoon. Dean Merrill: Yes. Could you tell me where I might find a taxi? Ethan Cragg: Oh, there are no taxis here. They're down at the station. People usually come into town by train. Dean Merrill: Well, my partner told me it'd be much quicker if I came by a chartered boat. Ethan Cragg: Is that so? Well, you might try old Pete. He'll take you anyplace you want to go for five bucks. Dean Merrill: (getting frustrated) Well, where do I find old Pete? Ethan Cragg: At the train station. Dean Merrill: (completely exasperated) Naturally. Well, how far is that? Ethan Cragg: Oh, it's about two miles. (points off to the left of the man) That way. Where you goin'? Dean Merrill: The hospital. Ethan Cragg: Oh. That's only a mile. (points off to the right of the man) That way. Dean Merrill: Thank you very much.
