  • While on the set, for a PBS series celebrating classic mystery films, Jessica tries to figure out who among the cast and crew of a new sitcom about young, urban twentysomethings could be a real life murder.

The highlight of this particular episode is the satire directed at the fiction "Buds" sitcom, which is a clear reference to the series, "Friends". When this episode aired, it was in direct competition with the NBC hit, and this episode features some pretty witty satire along those lines. Beyond the satire, the episode is strictly average. It is pretty obvious who the murderer is and that was a noticable problem with many of the episodes during these last few seasons. "Buds" cast and crew are certainly a bunch of talented actors, but they come off as being one-dimensional, which can only be partly justified as part of the satire.

I love the series and was disapointed that CBS cancelled it in 1996, but a major reason why the series was cancelled was because the writing was not as good as it could have been.
