  • Wasted locale

This episode is not one of the greatest. While there are many faults, perhaps the biggest is the total waste of the setting - New Orleans. Very little of the local flavor comes through. The great music we associate with this town is barely featured, and it looks to me like the actors who portray the jazz group are just pretending to be playing the music. It's a shame real musicians couldn't have been cast. Perhaps the worst bit of casting in this episode comes from having former teen idol Bobby Sherman as the drummer of the jazz group! Overall this is an episode best forgotten.moreless
  • a bad way

This episode is positively ridiculous. First, Jessica mixes up the date on which she is supposed to go to New Orleans, conveniently arriving in time to witness the murder of a jazz musician. Second, the man was killed with an extremely rare poison, which can only be found in the Amazon, is very difficult to trace, and only she and the murderer seem to even know about. As usual, she attributes her knowledge of this poison to research she did for a book. The killer, however, is not at all bright, but he somehow managed to cleverly plan the murder. If Jessica hadn't coincidentally researched that particular (but very rare) poison and then coincidentally arrived two days earlier than she was supposed to, the murder would have been ruled a heart attack. I was very disappointed, because usually the storylines are more clever and complex. This one was just way too neat to be swallowed.moreless
