  • Jessica Fletcher in a Scooby-Doo Mystery

    3.5
You expect to see Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scoob show up in this half-baked story set in Jamaica. There's zombies, voodoo, a curse, snakes and skulls. Plus we have a boatload of weak guest performances and even an uninspired turn from Angela Lansbury. I cringed when she described reggae as "a unique blend of rhythm and sounds." Um, Jessica...that's pretty much music in general.

This felt like a Season 1 or 2 episode. Awkward family dynamics that Jessica is thrust into yield a murder. Despite the exotic location, the episode is largely landlocked to the house. Grand Bush (one of the Agent Johnsons from the first "Die Hard") shows up in the thankless role of Jessica's sidekick for the hour and embarasses himself.

The "clue" is telegraphed so much there's no doubt as to the killer's identity. All we have to do is sit back and wait for a climax that involves...a phony zombie. In 12 seasons and 200+ episodes, they can't all be winners. But do they have to stink as bad as this one?

The only good thing about this otherwise forgettable hour? John Rhys-Davies as the blustery plantation owner. Too bad he's the victim this week, and is gone by the second commercial break.moreless
