The episode follows the basic format that had become a bit too common in the franchise; someone is killed and Jessica gets involved because she or someone she knows is falsely accused of being the murder. In this case, the murder victim is a flamboyant, ambiguously gay upscale florist who is never seen as being "petrified". Jessica's friend works at one of the magazines and after a little bit of detective work it is discovered that the killer is the woman who worked for the other magazine. Why did she do it?

Well, the flamboyant florist had been selling celebrity gossip to both magazines, including the fact that the married murder had an affair with the plastic surgeon. So, she killed the Hollywood florist to prevent him from selling the news about her affair and and, she feared, ruining her marriage.

It is a pretty weak plot line, given the fact that the murder's husband was more then willing to forgive her for the affair. A cynical person might wonder if adultery is really worth killing over in early 1990's Hollywood, but I digress.

Heck, someone might wonder why the Hollywood florist is described as being petrified or why he was, apparently, in the closet about his sexuality? Makes you wonder just how right-wing was the audience of Murder, She Wrote?

The cops are friendly but largely inept. When the killer is revealed, the scenes reveal that the florist was killed while making a phone call to the rival magazine. You would think that sort of information might have come out sooner in the investigation and pointed the finger at the killer early on. Alas, the killer does not want to go to prison and proceeds to kill Jessica! Yup, the episode was all a dream sequence. Jessica was suffering from jet-lag at the dinner party and fell asleep. She and the guests have a good laugh about it and the episode ends.

All in all, not a terrible episode but the basic storyline was being used over and over again.moreless
