Bette Midler, who has the distinction of playing Murphy's last secretary, actually has "ties" to Murphy Brown, as she had previously appeared in films with Lily Tomlin, Robert Pastorelli, and Pat Corley. She also attended the memorial service for Louis Malle, (Candice's husband), in February 1996.

This episode guest stars Wendie Jo Sperber, Marcia Wallace, and Tracy Nelson as members of a Breast Cancer Support Group. Wallace and Nelson were survivors of cancer at the time and Sperber had sadly been diagnosed with breast cancer weeks earlier. Sperber was inspired by the episode and actresses to create the organization weSPARK, a cancer support organization still active as of 2017.
