Bette Midler, who has the distinction of playing Murphy's last secretary, actually has "ties" to Murphy Brown, as she had previously appeared in films with Lily Tomlin, Robert Pastorelli, and Pat Corley. She also attended the memorial service for Louis Malle, (Candice's husband), in February 1996.

At the end of the episode, Murphy and Frank are supposed to be playing Super Mario Bros. 3 for the Nintendo system. However, the background noise from the game is from Super Mario World for Super Nintendo.

At the end of the episode Frank and Murphy play a video game. They claim it's "Super Mario Brothers 3", and the controllers appear to be from the correct system, original NES, however the sounds are clearly from the opening demo of Super Mario World, which only was available on the Super NES, which used a very distinct different controller.

Louis Malle was Candice Bergen's real-life husband at the time. This was their first, and last, appearance together, as Louis passed away on Thanksgiving Day 1995 (of T-cell Lymphoma).
