  • It's a few new characters, but the same old same old.

    6.5
Apart from the introduction of Art Hindle, an actor I like, I really found this more of the same old stuff. A character in peril - in this case Jesse's father (who has apparently been out of his life for years, but is still his hero); he's on the run from bad guys, who of course are somehow connected with Eckhart; he's rescued, kidnapped, there's a twist and a showdown. Eckhart is beaten - again - and there's a reconciliation. Where are the stories? Where is any kind of progression?

Fighting and stunts - terrific as always and totally unbelievable, but incapable of dislike.

Why do the baddies always have guns when the need them and just their mortal limbs when the Mutants are in real trouble. There comes a point at which you just think, for goodness' sake, you've been in Eckhart's lair more times than is credible. You can break a man's neck with a blow, turn his mind inside out, blast him with electricity - why if he's this bad and you're willing to injure and maim his minions wouldn't you just go after him and incapacitate him?? Or at least do an Andy Warhol portrait of him.

It's not a bad show. It just doesn't go anywhere so far. I'm hoping for more. Buffy had stand alone episodes, Angel did, Roswell did, but all of them held some future difficulty for their main characters - there was some actual conflict at the end of the episode (or at least some of them). Progression, tension, conflict. Something to keep the viewer watching at the end of each episode, other than the promise of another episode with exactly the same storyline, slightly tweaked.

Don't get me wrong. I don't dislike it, I just don't long to go from on episode to another to find out what happens, because there's no reason to. I'm not sure so far whether you couldn't just show every episode on a Random feature on a DVD and not realise they weren't in order.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • At the end of the episode, when the GSA agent shoots at Jesse and his father, the bullets drop to the ground after hitting Jesse but they aren't crushed or flattened - they are completely normal.

    • Eckhart must be really dumb, as he could have used Porter to track down all safehouses and even the sanctuary

    • For something as supposedly as important as the disk and the information on it, why does Eckhart send one inexperienced New Mutant and just a few men?

    • When Porter and his men spot Jesse, why does Jesse run all the way around to the driver's side instead of phase inside? He may have to keep his feet on the ground to stay stable when phasing or something, however.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Noah: You're just like your mom, you're always trying to take care of things.
Jesse: That's funny. She was always saying I was just like you 'cause I was always acting up.

    • Shalimar: I shouldn't have worn these pants. This underwear is really riding up.
      Emma: You're wearing underwear?
      Shalimar: You're not?
Adam: (via com-link) You two done?
