Living the Dream
AIRED:
After Roger shows off his brand new, expensive watch to Ben, Ben and Susan both get caught up trying to sell 'Pyramus' products, believing that they will be super rich in doing so, and that they will consequently be able to afford a nice, big boat and pay for Kenzo to go to a private school, amongst other things. And when they see Roger driving in his new Porsche, they go even more crazy about 'Pyramus', reacting by ordering yet more products--despite Michael's warnings.moreless

  • Can anyone say "Pyramid Scheme"? Well, even if Susan and Ben could, they wouldn't. Not after greed gets to them in one of the funniest episodes yet (and with the high calibre of this show, that is saying a lot)moreless

If anyone wants to know why MY FAMILY puts all current sitcom's to shame, they should watch this episode. The script, plotting and acting is nothing short of perfect. Additionally, even the surprise ending left you laughing. Bravo! If only they could film more episodes per series. This show is fantastic.
  • Ben is desperate for a boat and has noticed Roger\'s new expensive purchases. Roger claims it is from his Pyramid Selling through \'Pyramus\'. Ben and Susan give it a try and soon are doing a hilarious dance routine promoting their new discovery.moreless

Once again Ben and Susan are completely fooled by a suspicious scheme. Their money making plans backfire after Ben orders far too many Pyramus Products which won’t sell. But still he is confident in his company, and continues to chant the company slogan (which is so funny, my brother and I perform it often). Then Michael thinks of yet another ingenious plan to save them - but alas, Ben manages to ruin that as well! So again they are left with even less than before but with maybe a little more knowledge of Pyramid Selling!moreless

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Ben: (to his patient just before an x-ray) But don't worry, it's no more radiation than you'd get on a normal aeroplane journey.
Mr Renthrow: Yeah, but at least I'd be getting a holiday out of it!

    • Susan: (of state schools) Diversity, Janey, that's what it's all about.
Janey: Private schools have diversity, Mum, there are millionaires, billionaires...
Susan: (to the plumber) Algernon, where does your son go to school?
Algernon: Eton. Don't want him mixing with scum.

    • Susan: You're not thinking of sending Kenzo to a private school, are you?
Janey: Just 'cause I didn't get the best, doesn't mean you and Dad shouldn't provide it for my son.

  • NOTES (1)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Person: Viscount Linley

      Susan: ...and Viscount Linley.

David Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley, is the son of Princess Margaret and remotely in line for the throne should all before him fall. Although he has a reputation for selling almost anything he or his family owns, it's unlikely he's moving household products.

    • Person: Jilly Cooper

Susan: Who would believe that Jilly Cooper sold more anti-fungal ointment than anyone else in the British Isles?

Jilly Cooper is a well-known author who got her start in journalism, but is better known for her romantic fiction.
