Welcome to the My Good Woman guide at TV.com.
"Sylvia Gibbons is charitable to a fault: she's fanatical about giving things—and money—away, and is involved in all the local jumble sales and soup kitchens. The only thing she collects is clothes—to give away. Her harassed husband Clive wishes her to remember the adage about charity beginning at home, especially as he's in the antiques business and has trouble enough running his shop, but his pleas fall upon deaf ears. To relieve his exasperation Clive seeks solace in male company: first in next-door neighbour Philip Broadmore (whose thrift is the antithesis of Sylvia's compulsive generosity) and then skirt-chasing bachelor friend and darts player Bob Berris. Most of Sylvia's good deeds are channelled through the local vicar, the Reverend Hooper (played by Richard Wilson)." (BBCi Guide to Comedy)
