BBC (ended 2006)

Should they have ended this show when Ardal wouldn't come back?

Personally, I think that My Hero is going down hill and I wish it hadn't come back. If it comes back next year it will probably end up as a laughing stock.

Shows always go downhill when one of the main characters doesn't come back or dies(in the case of John Ritter) because it loses value because that character helped make the show what it was so its hard to find a quality replacement.

I sat down to watch this show on my local PBS station - and kept thinking that they would get the *real* George back before the end of the show. When it ended without that happening, I came here and found out that Ardal didn't return - so they replaced him with the actor who played Goody on Thin Blue Line.

I don't like the change. While it works in the context of the show - I've never been a fan of 'replacing' an actor, esp. if it's the main character of a show.

I'm not sure I want to watch the show anymore - Ardal was wonderful in it.

Why did he decide not to return? Does anyone know?

Yes, I had high hopes when it came back, even with a new George, as I didn't think it would be too different, and I'm annoyed that the whole series was about them getting back together. About half of them could have been aired last, and as far as the audience would know there wouldn't be a difference, they got back together in most of them. I guess the reason he didn't come back was because he was done with this, and he wanted to move onto new, and bigger & better things. Like he's guesting in an episode of Doctor Who this year.

Do we know why he left? I can't stand it when people leave shows (e.g Shannen Doherty from Charmed, Mischa Barton from The O.C.). So what was HIS excuse?

Ardal's clueless character fit perfectly on the show, I don't see how this guy fits at all.
