  • Party Machine is very funny and Speak No Evil isn't bad either

    9.0
The first cartoon up, Party Machine, was the funniest installment yet. Mrs. Wakeman goes out of town (to Pluto) and in her absence Jenny (who still is trying to become Miss Popularity) throws a party. But with all the distractions will she be prepared for the annual Minutian invasion at 6:00 AM? Lots of great bits here, including Tuck threatening to tell Mrs. Wakeman (on the phone) about the party; Brad dressing like Hugh Hefner, Jenny spending time with Don Prima, her giggling, Brad's solution to the Minutians, and so on. The second cartoon, Speak No Evil has Jenny's language disk drive getting damaged during a visit to Japan- so she can only speak Japanese. It's pretty good, even if the plot is terribly contrived and doesn't make much sense-the producers taking advantage of the fact Janice Kawaye is fluent in Japanese.moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • On youtube a discussion has come up regarding a Japanese word Jenny utters when she's trying to get the bystander to connect the hose to the fire hydrant. Some have said Jenny utters a obscenity, but that's not true. First off the word, "shimata" is not obscene, the translation is "oh no!" or "I made a mistake". In some anime that are fansubbed into English the subbers take liberties with the word and translate it into various obscenties. But the word itself is not an obscenity, got it? Besides, if it really was an obscenity, does anyone think Janice Kawaye wouldn't have pointed it out, or that Rob Renzetti would risk his career doing something like that or that Nickelodeon wouldn't have caught it?

    • According to the Japanese version of this show, this is what Jenny says in Japanese, in the English version:

Jenny: What's wrong... It's ok, not panic... quickly, go apart!... I'm ok, thanks... How're you?... I know... sure... What, Do you hear me?, I love shopping... What, Japanese, Japanese only?... how come?, aaaaaa... Something is wrong with me, I can't speak English, I'm a Japanese robot now... I can't speak English (3 times)... No, you're not even close... Ah, that's enough... Well, see you... Don't be crying!... quickly, go apart!... Can you help me?, please make them understand... Thank you, I'm grateful, I'm almost give up... I have to get water... Hey, connect this to the hydrant... Oh no... Please, connect that... No, no, hose, hose... yes, yes... no, no, please, connect that hose to the hydrant... yes... you're stupid!... please, come back here!... Why?, What's wrong?, oh no... It's too much... Put that bus down... Do you speak Japanese?... please, put my friend down too... Water... Thank you.

    • When Tuck is calling Wakeman on the phone, you can hear the touch tone dialing, but the phone he is using is clearly rotary.

    • When Jenny breaks off the globe from the statue, the hands of the statue break off with it. In the next shot, the globe is perfectly round.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Japanese kid: (to Jenny when she is leaving Japan) Suminasen, suminasen!

    • Jenny: Jaa mata ne! (rockets off to save the town)
Mrs. Wakeman: (confused) Eh, sounds good.

    • Brad: (talking to girls) Glad to see my peeps again!
      Girl: Hmph!
Brad: I dig! I dig! (bubbles come out of pipe)

    • Tuck: (on the phone) Hello, Mrs. Wakeman? This is Tuck, from next door.
Jenny: Okay! You can come to the party!
Tuck: Pin the tail on the donkey?
      Jenny: Yes!
Tuck: (into the phone) I just called to say ... I love you.
      Mrs. Wakeman: Excuse me?

    • Tuck: Ok, I give up. What is it? Let's take a look at this gobligook. Hmm, what's this? Test tube plus water drop equals frowny face. Test tube plus no water equals happy face. (he pauses for a few seconds) It must mean to add water.

    • Jenny: How is it, again, that you know the Minutians will land here?
Mrs. Wakeman: They always land here. Why do you think I moved here?

    • Jenny: Your little girl is growing up.
Mrs. Wakeman: You're right XJ9. Well technically you're wrong because you're a robot and will remain a teenager forever, but metaphorically, you're absolutely right.

  • NOTES (1)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • There is an allusion to the first episode of Kim Possible in which Kim goes to Japan. Jenny says Ko-nitche-wa which is repeated over and over in the KP episode. She then turns around and says "No Big" in Japanese, which -of course- is one of Kim Possible's most famous lines.

    • Title: Speak No Evil

      The Japenese Proverb is referenced.
