My Little Pony - The Movie
AIRED:
It's spring in Ponyland and the Little Ponies are preparing their annual festival to celebrate. Things take a dark turn when three witches – Hydia and her daughters Reeka and Draggle – unleash the Smooze on Dream Valley in order to make it "dark, dank, and dreary." Wind Whistler and North Star bring Megan, Danny, and Molly and their Rainbow Locket to Pony Land to fight back the Smooze. But the living purple ooze manages to cover Dream Castle and suck up the Rainbow of Light before a spell mishap puts it to sleep. Megan, Wind Whistler, and Fizzy go to the Moochick for guidance and come back with a new home (the Paradise Estate) and a map to Flutter Valley, home of the magic ponies that can defeat the Smooze. Meanwhile, the witches search for the spell ingredient they need to reawaken the Smooze so it can finish flooding Ponyland. A subplot revolves around Baby Lickety-Split and Spike running away and meeting the Grundles, some friendly cave dwellers whose kingdom was also destroyed by the witches. Shady goes looking for the runaways with one brave Bushwoolie before meeting up with the group Megan is leading to Flutter Valley. The Little Ponies have many adventures before finding the Flutter Ponies - Queen Rose Dust is convinced to help them when Baby Lickety-Split, Spike and the Grundles arrive with a Flutter Pony they helped rescue. Rose Dust's Flutter Ponies use their Utter Flutter attack to beat back the Smooze until the Rainbow of Light is freed and can help finish the fight. In the end, the witches are sent back to their mountain in defeat, the Flutter Ponies and the Little Ponies become friends, the Grundles are given Dream Castle for a home, and Megan leaves the Rainbow Locket with Baby Lickety-Split before leaving with her family.moreless

    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (9)

      • Magic Star goes back to Dream Castle to warn the others about the Smooze. Shady is seen among them even though she's supposed to be off looking for Baby Lickety-Split.

      • Why did Megan have the Rainbow of Light? She always gives it back to the Little Ponies before she goes home because she knows they need it for protection.

      • The Smooze moves very slowly through Dream Valley after it's reawakened. It should have covered Paradise Estate way before Megan and the others came back with the Flutter Ponies.

      • In the field of giant sunflowers, there's a Smooze river whose height keeps changing. Sometimes it's really high, other times there quite a drop between the edge of the cliff and the river.

      • When everyone begins climbing up the cliff to escape from Augh, Sweet Stuff and Gingerbread are there instead of Shady and Fizzy.

      • For that matter, why do we never see the Rainbow of Light in the TV series? With all the bad guys that threaten Ponyland's existence, you'd think the Little Ponies would be using it every episode. But they never mention it again after the movie.

      • When Hydia first looks into her cauldron to watch the Little Ponies at their festival, she sees four ponies at the ribbon pole. But the four ponies all look exactly alike.

      • Gusty, Shady, Buttons, and Magic Star all go off together to look for Baby Lickety-Split. But when they pass the canyon where Baby Lickety-Split and Spike are trapped, Buttons is gone.

      • Baby Lickety-Split's headband mysteriously reappears right before she attempts to fly over the cliff.

    • QUOTES (8)

      • "What Good Will Wishing Do?" - sung by Baby Lickety-Split, Morning Glory, and Spike

        L: No one's in a fix like I am
        MG: I am
L: No one has the luck I do
        MG: I do
L: No one had the setbacks I have
        MG: I have
L: Look where life has led me to
        MG: Me to

L: Nothing I can see can help me
        MG: Help me!
L: And with all that we've come through
        MG: Come through!
L: I wish this was a dream so I could wake up
        MG: Wake up!
L: But what good will wishing do?

Spike: (spoken) Ah, come on, Lickety-Split, make a real wish. Feeling sorry for yourself isn't going to improve the situation.
L: (spoken) I can't help it. Everything looks so hopeless!

(sung) Nothing I can see can help me
        MG: Help me!
        S: Somebody will save you
        L: Who?
        MG: You!
L: I wish there was some cozy little inn near
        MG: IN HERE!
L: But what good will wishing do?

MG: It might make your dreams come true!

      • "Grundles Good" - sung by the Grundle King and his people, Baby Lickety-Split, and Spike

        G: Don't be frightened! What's you're hurry?
Have no fear! Not to worry!
        Sorry to alarm you
        Grundles won't harm you

S: (spoken) Grundles? How do we know you won't harm us?
L: (spoken) We thought you were some kind of monsters
        GK: (spoken) Grundles good!
L: (spoken) They still look like monsters to me
GK: (spoken) Is what everyone thinks, but Grundles not monsters. Grundles good!

G: Grundles good! Grundles good! Grundles good!
        Grundles small, Grundles nice,
        Grundles also quite concise
        Grundles don't waste words
        Wasting words for the birds
        People stunned, often scared
        Meeting Grundles unprepared

        Grundles are misunderstood
        Grundles neat, Grundles gentle
        Grundles sweet and sentimental
Grundles hug you, never bug you
Grundles good! Grundles good! Grundles good!

        Grundles are misunderstood!
Take a shot! Take a (lyrics unknown)
        Grundles not as we're painted
Grundles love all and above all....

Grundles good! Grundles good! Grundles good!

      • "Home" - sung by the Moochick, Megan, Wind Whistler, and Fizzy

Mo: Home is where the heart is
It's where you hang your hat
        Without a home, you're nowhere
And nowhere's no place to be at

W: (spoken) Precisely, Mr. Moochick, but what do you propose we do about it?
Mo: (spoken) Why, there's only one thing to do

(sung) You have to have a home
You can't live without a home
Why, everybody has to have a home
And I've got what will suit you to a tee
It's this darling little villa in Capri
Lots of closet space and overlooks the sea

M: (spoken) Uh, Mr. Moochick, it's very sweet of you to offer, but I don't think it's exactly what the Little Ponies had in mind.
Mo: (spoken) No? But goodness, me!

(sung) They have to find a home
        How about the hippodrome?
It used to be quite popular in Rome
Or why not do what Cleopatra did
And buy a nice Egyptian pyramid?
Take a look - I guarantee you'll flip your lid

        F: (spoken) Wow! That's terrific!
W: (spoken) There's no doubt it's quite wonderful, Mr. Moochick, but we couldn't possibly live there!
Mo: (spoken) My, my, you certainly are picky Little Ponies...hmmph! Now, let me see...

(sung) How about a tepee? How about an igloo?
How sbout a tree house made completely of bamboo?
I know a woman once - lived in a shoe!
All right, I know it simply isn't you

You need a place to dwell
        The Taj Mahal is swell
Or maybe you'd prefer a swank hotel
How how about a palace like Versai?
Well, I really don't know what I ought to try
You're looking for some castle in the sky

W: (spoken) We truly apologize for being so difficult, Mr. Moochick, but Dream Castle was rather special.
F: (spoken) Yeah, it's not so easy to replace. But you can do it, I know you can!
M: (spoken) You see, Mr. Moochick, to the Little Ponies, Dream Castle was like - like a little bit of heaven.
Mo: (spoken) Heaven? Well, I'm afraid you Little Ponies had better come back down to Earth!

(sung)You have to find a home
        How 'bout the Astrodome?
Or something futuristic made of chrome?
I'm sorry but if you want my advice
You'll simply have to made a sacrifice
I know the home you had was very nice -
But what you're looking for is paradise!
        M&W: We'll take it!
        Moo: It's paradise!
        F: Oh, thank you!
        All: It's paradise!

      • "There's Always Another Rainbow" - sung by Megan

        Always another rainbow
        Search until you find it
Don't look at the cloud, look behind it
        There's a rainbow there somewhere

There's always a ray of sunshine
        Though it all seems tragic
You may turn around and like magic
There's an answer to your prayer

        Now you feel forlorn
        But hope can be reborn
        Try and lose that frown
        Look up, not down!

        And you'll find another rainbow
        I can guarantee it
Even though you think you've reached the rainbow's end
        There's always another rainbow
Always another rainbow 'round the bend

      • "I'll Do the Dirty Work" - sung by Draggle and Reeka

D: Why, sister dear, you're looking rather ill
I fear you aren't feeling at your best
I hope you haven't come down with a chill
Perhaps you need to take a little rest

R: (spoken) What about all the work we have to do? You're not gonna do it all alone, are you?
D: (spoken) Oh, Reeka darling, what are sisters for? Not to worry, not to worry -

(sung) I'll do the dirty work
I'll handle all the dirty work
You go relax in your room
I'll collect the muck and mire
I wouldn't want you to perspire
All you have to do is get the phlume

        R: (spoken) The phlume?! Me?
D: (spoken) Why not? I'll be doing everything else. You're not that sick!
R: (spoken) You're right. In fact suddenly, I'm feeling a whole lot better

(sung) Draggle, dear, I just now had a flash
I still owe you a birthday gift or two
I suffered from a lack of ready cash
But now I'd like to make it up to you

        I'll do the dirty work
I'll take on all the dirty work
        Each pungent job I'll assume
        I'll be working overtime
Collecting mold and filth and slime
All you have to do is get the phlume

        D: (spoken) Phlume? Me?
        R: (spoken) Happy birthday!
D: (spoken) Reeka, dear, you're really much too kind
Let's just divvy up the list
R: (spoken) Oh, nonsense, I don't mind. But if you really want to...
        D: (spoken) I insist!

Both: (sung) We'll both do the dirty work
We'll both do the dirty work
R: Everyone should do her share
        D: It's really only fair

R: I'll collect the greenish mold - yuck!
D: I'll collect the blackish muck
R: I'll collect the furry mildew...just my luck, the mildew's stuck - yuck, yuck
D: I'll go find the yellow fungus!
R: I'll go get the silver slime
Both: Sharing dirty work among us
Does our job in half the time!
You see it's great when we cooperate!

R: I'll do the dirty work
D: Oh, I'll gladly do the dirty work
Both: No need to fret or fight or fuss or fume
D: I'll do the dirty work
R: I'll gladly do the dirty work
        So long as someone else
D: So song as someone else
Both: So long as someone else gets the phlume!

      • "I'll Go It Alone" - Baby Lickety-Split and Spike

L: Why do they always have to tell me I'm wrong?
Why do they make me feel I just don't belong?
If they don't like the way I sing my own song
I'll go it alone, I'll go it alone!

How come the word I hear most often is "no"?
The way I'm treated I feel lower then low
It's very clear that I'm not wanted here, so
I'll go it alone, I'll go it alone!

S: I know that you're upset, but don't rush of just yet
You can't take the world on single handed
What if you should end up lost and stranded?
L: Better that then being reprimanded!

No matter how I try I can't seem to please
What do they want - should I go down on my knees?
If all they know to do is holler and tease
        I'll go it alone!

Why must they criticize whatever I do?
My days of taking all their insults is through
        Good-bye! So Long! Tah-Tah! Farewell! Too-da-loo!
S: I don't like thinking what might happen to you
If you strike out on your own!
L: Spike! I'll brave the unknown!
        S: But, Lickety, you can't!
        L: And go it alone!
        S: Don't go it alone!
        L: I'll go it alone!
        S: Don't go it alone!

      • "Evil Like Me" - sung by Hydia

Why can't you be evil like I taught you?
Why won't you misbehave the way you should?
You never use the guillotine I bought you
You're just not bad enough for your own good

Why can't you be mean like Aunt Eureka?
She fed her victims till they almost burst
Then cooked them with a smiggin of paprika
And she always did her best to do her worst

We're witches and witches are wicked
How many times have you been told?
Your great grandma Alexis crushed a kingdom with her hexes
And that's the proud tradition I want you to uphold

Try to be as evil as your cousins
Lucrecia was the cruelest in the crowd
She cooked up evil potions by the dozens
Be just like her and make your mama proud

        We're witches, wizards, and warlocks
We're the reason honest people purchase door locks
We turn princes into frogs, peasants into pheasants
And soldiers and sailors into swine
We've never been accused of being angels
But as for being devils, we're divine!

All our clan was evil and malicious
And that is how I want my girls to be
Work hard at being vicious, and if you're real ambitious
You might wind up an evil witch like me
        A terrible, detestable, contestable, despicable
Evil mean old witch like me!

    • NOTES (4)

      • The movie gives the first indication that Dream Valley was not always a nice place to live. Hydia says that it was the arrival of the Little Ponies that made it green and bright and colorful.

      • Unicorns can't be carrying anyone on their backs when they wink in and out. Otherwise, Molly could have stayed on Fizzy's back when they were crossing the second Smooze river in the sunflower field.

      • The ponies featured in this movie are some of the ones that will continue to appear in the TV series (there are others the TV show introduces). Megan, Danny, and Molly are also wearing their standard outfits.

      • Featured songs: "Evil Witch Like Me," "I'll Go It Alone," "I'll Do the Dirty Work," "Nothing Can Stop the Smooze," "There's Always Another Rainbow," "Home," "Grundles Good," "What Good Will Wishing Do?"
