To me this episode was a great improvement after putting up with Trixie and Gilda and one of my top 5 favorite episodes. It begins with Fluttershy in her yard tending to the animals when her favorite bunny, Angel, points out a cloud of smoke. She goes to the park where Rainbow Dash is about to break a record and Pinkie is ready to celebrate. Fluttershy tries to tell of the smoke, but no pony hears her. It isn't until Twilight Sparkle comes and tells the news to the other ponies. Applejack and Rarity meet up with the others at the library. They discover a dragon is causing the smoke infestation and must remove him before he covers Ponyville in ash. The ponies make their way to the mountain the dragon is at, but Fluttershy is terrified and doesn't want to go. She has a fear of heights and is afraid of big dragons. The other ponies help Fluttershy get up the mountain slowly and she sadly causes a lot of accidents. When they finally reach the dragon, Fluttershy refuses to go in, so the others try their own tactics. Rarity tried to use charm, Pinkie tried a party, Twilight asked the dragon to leave, and Rainbow tries to kick it. The dragon awakens and is about to destroy the other ponies, but before he does Fluttershy comes in. She gives the dragon a lecture that makes the dragon cry and is convinced to leave. Back at Ponyville the sky is cleared of the smoke and Twilight learns a lesson that you should never give up on friends. The episode ends with Pinkie scaring Rainbow with a fake dragon roar and Fluttershy fainting from a leaf landing on her. This was one of the best episodes of this show yet. I personally loved how the ponies tried to convince the dragon to leave and when Angel was trying to communicate. My only issue is just Rainbow was harsh on Fluttershy, but it's made up for her being scared and taunted by Fluttershy. Overall an excellent episode overall and well worth looking.

    FINAL SCORE 10/10moreless
  • A sleeping dragon is covering the sky with black smoke. Since Fluttershy is awesome with the animals, Twilight hopes that Fluttershy's ability will make the dragon move somewhere else to sleep but the only problem is that Fluttershy is scared of a dragonmoreless

I thought that this was an excellent episode of "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic". The story was clever, original, adorable, funny, and terrific. My favorite character Fluttershy has a big role here so I'm very glad that Fluttershy got more lines than any other of the ponies. My score was just a tad low because it kinda bugged me that Fluttershy tries to tell the other ponies that she is afraid of a dragon and the other ponies (mostly Twilight) won't give her a chance to speak. Fluttershy's part was very cute in this episode. Fluttershy being afraid of every little thing was adorable and very funny. It was funny when Fluttershy is afraid to look at her own shadow. Fluttershy being terrrified throughout the whole quest because she didn't want to face a dragon was very good. Poor Fluttershy really is a scared and shy pony and that's what makes her so adorable and funny. Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash trying to talk to the dragon but it failed was funny. How come Applejack didn't get a try? Applejack didn't even get a chance to talk to the dragon. I also loved how Fluttershy was angry at the dragon for hurting her friends and was standing up to the dragon... I just thought that was the most funniest and most adorable scene out of the whole episode. The dragon listening to Fluttershy was also nice. The ending was well done as well. Overall, an excellent episode of "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic". 9.5/10moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Derpy cameo: She can be seen flying around when Fluttershy came to town to warn everyone about the smoke and near the end of the episode clearing the smoke from the sky.

    • Rainbow Dash brings up Fluttershy's encounter with a manticore, from "Friendship is Magic, part 2".

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Twilight: You have a wonderful talent dealing with all kinds of animals.
Fluttershy: Yes. Because they are not dragons.
Rainbow Dash: Oh come on! We've seen you walk up to a horrible manticore like it was nothing.
Fluttershy: Yes. Because he wasn't a dragon.
Pinkie Pie: Spike's a dragon. You're not scared of him.
      Fluttershy: Yes. Because he wasn't a huge, gigantic, terrible enormous, teeth-gnashing, sharp scale-having, horn-wearing, smoke-snoring, could-eat-a-pony-in-one-bite, totally-all-grown-up dragon.

    • Rainbow Dash: We've tried persuasion, charm, whatever it is Pinkie Pie does. . .

    • Rarity: I was this close to getting that diamond!
Twilight Sparkle: You mean, getting rid of that dragon?
      Rarity: Oh, yeah. Sure.

    • Fluttershy: (To the dragon after it hurts her friends) How dare you. How dare you! Listen here, mister. Just because you're big, doesn't mean you get to be a bully. You may have huge teeth and sharp scales and snore smoke and breathe fire, but you do not, I repeat, you do NOT HURT MY FRIENDS! You got that? (The dragon whimpers) Well?
Dragon: (Points at Rainbow Dash) But that rainbow one kicked me.

  • NOTES (3)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • The dragon sleeping on a pile of treasure is most likely a reference to Smog, the dragon from the novel, The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien.

    • The title of this episode, "Dragonshy", could possibly be a play on the name of the dragonfly insect. It could also be referencing the term "gun-shy", the act of being wary or frightened of something, something Fluttershy experiences during this episode.
