This episode are one of these that are Building up for the Grand Galopping Gala. At first Rarity fails with her dresses, but then she makes the most beautiful ones at last. Watch out for Vinyl Scratch too. Recommended for slice of life fans. 10/10
  • Excellent episode again!

I personally find this episode to be one of Rarity's highlights and one of her best roles in the show. It begins at Carousal Boutique with Rarity making some dresses and Applejack and Twilight Sparkle come in with a dress to fix for the Grand Galloping Gala. Rarity insists that she makes a new dress for her friends and goes to work on making her own designs. When she finishes the dresses, her friends say they don't like them and Rarity decides to do them in their way. When she finishes them she acknowledges them as the ugliest dresses ever made. He friends love them though and Spike comes in to inform that fashion designer Hoity Toity is coming to inspect these dresses. All of Ponyville and Hoity see the dresses and state how ugly they really are. Rarity is found out to be the one responsible and her friends realize that they made a huge mistake. They go to Rarity's to talk to her, but she doesn't come out since she's a laughingstock. Twilight finds Rarity's unfinished dress and with Fluttershy's sewing knowledge and the rest of her friends, they finish the dress. Rarity comes out to see the dress and loves how it followed her design. Twilight and the others apologize for their behavior in ruining Rarity and for getting out of hand. They manage to get Hoity Toity to look at the new dresses and states how beautiful they are. The episode ends with Twilight learning that she should never be overcritical with something a friend does for you. This was one of the best episodes I have seen in a while. I loved Rarity's song as well as how the dresses looked. I also loved Pinkie's reference to The Simpsons' Crazy Cat Lady. My only issue was that Twilight and the others were stupid for rejecting the first dresses and thinking their versions were better, but it was for the sake of plot. Overall, great humor as well as a great musical number makes this episode great.

I thought that this was an excellent episode of "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic". The episode starts with Rarity trying to concentrate on making the dresses and then decides to put on a fashion show with Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Twilight as the models. Rarity shows them the dresses that she made for them but the ponies don't really like it so Rarity then decides to change the dress exactly as they all picture their dress to be. Rarity has her fashion show where a fashion critic also comes to judge by how the fashion show goes. Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Twilight go on the stage and all of the ponies from Ponyville were laughing at the ponies which humiliated Rarity and the fashion critic gave it a bad review. Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Twilight then decide to put on the fashion show at Rarity's house for the fashion critic to judge again and the fashion critic loved the designs. Everything in this episode was well executed and it had some funny parts. I thought it was very funny when Rarity was asking for Fluttershy's opinion and then Fluttershy tells Rarity on what is wrong with the dress. I also thought that Spike's part was very good. Rarity changing the ponies' dresses was also well done. Overall, an excellent episode of "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic". 10/10moreless

    • Rarity: Leave me alone! I want to be alone. I want to wallow in...whatever it is ponies are suppose to wallow in. Do ponies wallow in pity? Oh, listen to me. I don't even know what I'm suppose to wallow in. I'm so pathetic!

    • Applejack: So all you have to do is make a different, stunning, original, amazing outfit for one, two, three, four, five, plus yourself... six ponies? And lickety split?
Rarity: (laughs) Oh Applejack, you make it sound as if it's going to be hard.

    • Rarity: (about Fluttershy's dress) What do you think?
      Fluttershy: I... love it.
Rarity: Oh, you're just saying that.
Fluttershy: No, no, I do. It's... nice.
      Rarity: Nice?
      Fluttershy: Nice.
Rarity: If you don't like it, you should just tell me.
Fluttershy: Oh, but I do like it.
Rarity: Like it, or love it?
      Fluttershy: Um... both?
      Rarity: Which is it?
Fluttershy: Please stop asking me this. I...
Rarity: Well, just tell me what you really think.
      Fluttershy: No, that's okay
      Rarity: Tell meeeee!
      Fluttershy: Um... no. It's fine...
      Rarity: Tell me.
      Fluttershy: I-I like it.
Rarity: Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, TELL ME!!
Fluttershy: All right. Since you really wanna know... (inhales) The arm size's tight, the middy collar doesn't go with the shawl lapel, the hems are clearly machine-stitched, the pleats are uneven, the fabric looks like toile, you used a backstitch here when it clearly called for a topstitch, or maybe a traditional blanket stitch, and the overall design is reminiscent of prêt-à-porter and not true French haute couture. But... uh... you know... um... whatever you want to do is fine...

    • Twilight: Now what do we do?
      Fluttershy: Uh, panic?
Rainbow Dash: That's your answer for everything.

    • Rainbow Dash: What?
Rarity: Aren't you going to tell me to change something too?
Rainbow Dash: No, I just want my dress to be cool.
Rarity: Do you not like the color?
Rainbow Dash: The color's fine, just make it look cooler.
Rarity: Do you not like the shape?
Rainbow Dash: The shape's fine, just make the whole thing, you know, cooler. It needs to be about 20% cooler.

    • Applejack: We can't just leave Rarity like this.
Pinkie Pie: She'll become a crazy cat lady.
Twilight: She only has one cat.
      Pinkie Pie: Give her time.

  • NOTES (3)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Hoity-Toity's character design is based on the German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

    • This episode's title, "Suited for Success", is a play off of the phrase, "dressed for success". Note that the replacement of the word "dressed" in the phrase with "suited" allows the title of this episode to take advantage of the fact that "suited" can also refer to something found to be appropriate.
