Derpy cameo: She can be seen flying through town before Twilight checks out the misspelled sign.
When Twilight kicks open Zecora's door, the doorknob changes from a regular knob to a horseshoe.
During Twilight's vision of the parasprites attacking Princess Celestia, the princess' tail is layered over her right back leg.
Zecora: (About the Parasprites) Tales of crops and harvests consumed. If these creatures are in Ponyville, you're doomed.
Twinkle Sparkle: You're a great friend. Even if we don't always understand you.
Pinkie Pie: Thanks, guys. You're all good friends too. Even when I don't understand me.
Twilight Sparkle: (about the Parasprites) Do something, Fluttershy! Can't you control them?
Fluttershy: I've tried everything I know. I've tried begging, and pleading, and beseeching, and asking politely...
Rainbow Dash: (about the Parasprites) Time to take out the adorable trash!
Friendship Report: Twilight learned that the best solutions can come from the most unlikely of sources, and it was a good idea to listen to her friends' opinions and perspective, even if they might not make any sense at the time.
This episode revolves around all of the ponies.
Pinkie Pie leading the parasprties out of Ponyville using music is a reference to the story, The Pied Piper of Hamlen, where a man uses the music from his magic flute to lead a bunch of rats out of his town.
The parasprites are quite similar to the tribbles from the Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles."
Pinkie Pie as a one man band is a reference to Burt, Dick Van Dyke's character from the film, Mary Poppins.
Philadelphia: Fillydelphia is likely a pun off of this famous city in Pennsylvania.
The title of this episode, "Swarm of the Century", is a pun on the phrase "storm of the century", typically applied to an unusually weather event or other disaster whose destructive magnitude is experienced only once every hundred or so years.
