  • Was good until the moral was thrown out

This episode was utterly pointless because the entire point of it was to lead up to the moral but since the moral was thrown out due to the problem being resolved by giving them all a ticket instead of either not going or picking a friend to go with. Even My Little Pony Tales handled this very problem better.
  • My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S01 E03: The Ticket Master

You know my rules. Now, since you know this episode won't have any positives, let's delve into the negatives of this episode right away.

    5. Pinkie's Gala Fantasy Song: Songs don't affect my opinion on an overall episode, just saying. If I did count it, then it would probably be Number 3 on this list. I like Giggle at the Ghosty more than this song. Telling you how much I dislike the song? And it's only number 5. The lyrics are repetitive, and the speed just changes and changes. Also, the lyrics don't sound too good. Also, does it creep anyone else out that Pinkie's favorite game is Pin the Tail on the Pony? Actually, that's the only way I could find Rarity creepy, because it's her favorite too.

    4. Spike: Spike originally didn't want to go to the gala, because he thought it would be too girly. These actions make him appear sexist and stereotypical. My Little Pony has proven they can break stereotypes. That was probably one of the points in Sisterhooves Social. However, when they use stereotypes, such as in Dragon Quest, it makes the episode unlikable, and in this case, Spike is turned unlikable.

    3. Fake Friendship: This is really for everyone in this episode but Twilight. Twilight is helping Applejack with her apples, and she is actually going into deep thought about who to pick. This makes her the most likable pony of the episode. As for the others of the Mane 6, they are only warming up to her to because they will get something in return. That's not how friends are supposed to act. They are supposed to be kind to one another without any reward but the enjoyment of having a friend. This means that their friendship is worthless and meaningless, sort of like their relationship with Spike in Owl's Well that Ends Well.

    2. How easily the situation could have been avoided: There are 2 reasons on how this could have been avoided. One way this could have been avoided is by sending Twilight seven tickets from the start. This also starts the whole "Trollestia" thing, which I didn't understand before. Celestia knows Twilight has 6 other friends, yet she only gave two tickets. Troll much? Also, it is obvious that Applejack has the best reason to go. Rainbow Dash is just going to meet an idol, Fluttershy is just there to see bluebirds, Rarity is going there for her own selfish dreams, (totally the element of generosity) and Pinkie Pie is just there to do what she normally does: party. Seriously, the fact that this conflict could be so easily avoided frustrates me, and takes a huge toll on this episode, but not as much as number 1.

    1. Selfish Desires: I basically just explained the reason why I hate their selfish wants, with the exception of Applejack. But this is just frustrating. The Mane 5 all want to go to the gala, and, after their horrible explanations, they all fight, and just randomly turn against each other. This reminds me of a modern Spongebob episode, which is a bad cartoon. That episode aired before this show even started. I still like this one more, though. So, they try to persuade Twilight to give them the ticket. Some of these ways are illegal, like Fluttershy cleaning Twilight's house. Then, some random background ponies come out of nowhere and ask for the extra ticket. Celestia FINALLY sends the extra tickets, and they all go.

It's a shame this episode happened on my birthday. It really is. This is definitely one of the worst FiM episodes. However, I tend to look on the more positive end of the stick, like our next episode, Applebuck Season. This is also the debut of a 2nd writer and the last episode of my least favorite writer.

This episode earns writer's worst for both writers, and worst Season 1 episode. Yes, I do like Boast Busters and Show Stoppers more. :P

  • Another fantastic episode

Personally this is one of my top 5 best episodes of Season 1 of Friendship is Magic and one of the funniest as well. It begins with Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, and Spike picking apples from around Sweet Apple Acres. Just as they are about to get lunch, a message from Princess Celestia comes and tells Twilight she is allowed to go the Grand Galloping Gala, an event held in Canterlot that only the rich get into. She is allowed to bring one other friend. Throughout the episode Twilight's friends fight for the extra ticket and each argue why they want to go. Applejack wants to sell her apple products to help her farm and Granny Smith. Rainbow Dash wants a chance to perform with the Wonderbolts. Pinkie Pie wants to be there to party. Rarity wants to meet her Prince Charming. Fluttershy wants to see the garden and animals at the castle. Twilight tells them that she'll make a choice, but the other ponies decide to bribe her with various gifts from a dress to food. Eventually Twilight goes back to the library and sees her friends waiting for her. After letting out a yell of frustration and Twilight tells her friends she can't decide, the other ponies realize what they were doing was wrong and apologize and offer to not go to the Gala. Twilight has Spike send back the tickets after she learns that when there aren't enough blessings for her friends it can hurt them. Spike sends them back only to get another scroll back with six tickets for Twilight and the others. Rarity offers to treat Twilight to dinner and the others take their tickets. Spike feels bad that he isn't given one, but Celestia sends one last ticket to him and he gleefully runs off to see Applejack with a grin on her face. Spike tries to contain the excitement, but isn't and both Spike and Applejack run off to join the others. This was another excellent episode. I loved how each reason was explained through great detail and there were very great funny moments like the Benny Hill music playing and Pinkie's attempt to bribe Twilight. This was one of the best episodes of Friendship is Magic and is well worth watching.

I thought that this was an excellent episode of "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic". I know I saw this already in the other two reviews for the episodes "Call of the Cutie" and "Fall Weather Friends" BUT That_TV_Dude was right about this show and it is definitely super duper enjoyable. I'm already loving this show. This could possibly my favorite show to watch on the HUB channel. It seriously is a very enjoyable, cute, and funny cartoon. The animation is beautiful and terrific and all of the ponies in this show are very cute especially ponies like Pinkie Pie. Twilight receives two tickets to go to a huge party called the Grand Galloping Gala and her friends Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy bribe her with favors so she can give one of them the extra ticket. I thought the best part of this episode was Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy's fantasies of when they are at the party. Everyone bribing Twilight was also funny. Twilight deciding not to go to the Grand Galloping Gala was very nice because it wouldn't be fun unless all of her friends are there. Although, I already predicted it before it happened, it was nice when the princess sent all six of the ponies to the Grand Galloping Gala. Spike getting his ticket at the end of the episode was also funny. Overall, "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" is officially my favorite show to watch on the HUB channel. 10/10moreless

  • QUOTES (9)

    • Spike: (Gagging)
Applejack: Well, wallop my withers, Spike. Isn't that just like a boy? Can't handle the least bit of sentiment.
      Spike: (Belches up a letter.)
      Applejack: Whoa, Nelly!

    • Pinke Pie: (Singing) Twilight is my bestest friend, whoopee, whoopee

      Twilight: (Deadpan) Pinkie!
Pinkie Pie: (Singing) She'll give her extra ticket to the gala to me!
      Twilight: (Furious) Pinkieeeeee!!!

    • Rarity: (Having just put Spike in an outfit reminiscent of 18th century France, including a yellow toupee) Oh, Spike. Now you just need a hat.
Spike: Ugh! I told you I don't want any part of this girly gala gunk! See you back at the library. (exits stage right, leaving the outfit, hat and all, behind).

    • Pinkie Pie: (Upon seeing the tickets in her face when she opens her eyes after crashing into Twilight and Spike) Aah! Bats! Bats on my face! Help!

    • Twilight: I've never been to the gala. Have you, Spike?
Spike: No. And I plan to keep it that way. I don't want any of that girly, frilly, froufrou nonsense.
Twilight: Aw, come on, Spike. A dance would be nice.

    • Twilight Sparkle: You're not doing this for the ticket, are you?
Fluttershy: Oh, no. I'm doing this because you're my very best friend. Right, Angel? (Angel gives annoyed look at Fluttershy) Oh...yes, we are just doing this for the ticket.

    • Fluttershy: (Humming "My Little Pony" theme whilst cleaning)

Twilight: (Gasps)  Fluttershy!  Not you, too!

Fluttershy : Oh!  Well hello, Twilight. I hope you don't mind, but we're all doing a little spring cleaning for you.
      Twilight: It's summer.
Flutterhsy: Oh.  Well, better late than never, right?

    • Applejack: Thank ya kindly Twilight, for helping me out. I bet Big Macintosh I could get all these Golden Delicious in the barn by lunch time. If I win, he's gonna walk down Syrup Street in on of Granny's gerdils.

    • (Everyone is arguing about the tickets)

      Twilight Sparkle: QUIET!

Pinkie Pie: ...And then I said "Oatmeal? Are you crazy?"

  • NOTES (3)

    • The title of this episode, "The Ticket Master", is a reference to the company Ticketmaster Entertainment, Inc. or one of its ticket outlets where one can purchase tickets to concerts, sports events and other entertainment shows.

    • Friendship Report: Twilight learned that sharing one's blessing can affect friendship when there isn't enough to go around.

    • This episode revolves around Twilight.

    • Benny Hill

The chase scene towards the end of the episode where everypony is chasing Twilight Sparkle around town and she tries to hide by disguising herself is like the chase scenes at the end of episodes of The Benny Hill Show. Even the music is almost identical the famous "Benny Hill chase music".

    • Fluttershy's description of the private gated garden surrounding the dance at the Grand Galloping Gala involved "loons and toucans and bitterns, oh my!" This line shows a great deal of resemblance to the line "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!" from the 1939 classic film The Wizard of Oz.
