Earl and Randy have both recently got jobs at a local appliance store, working on the loading dock. Randy loves his job, but Earl begins to wonder whether there are bigger and better things out there than being a "Docker" as they are referred to.
One day, Earl is asked to take a new floor model out to the store. When he sees the store and the salesmen (whom the Dockers call "Dickies") he immediately decides he wants to become a salesman. However, when the other Dockers hear about this, they discourage Earl, telling him that "no-one's ever gone from the back of the store to the front."
Earl is not discouraged, however, and he manages to convince the store manager to give him a chance at being a salesman. One condition: Earl has to sell $5000 worth of goods before the end of Friday. Earl agrees. This angers the Dockers, however, who see him as a Dickie and a traitor. They then start to trash his locker every day.
Earl, however, isn't wavered, and goes to his new job. The Dickies, however, are no nicer to earl, as the bully him also by cutting off his tie on his first day and stealing all his sales.
