(Previously introduced in episode "G.E.D.")
Crossed off in this episode
#273B Get a real job.
Earl's first job is at Waadt Appliance.
The Spanish phrase that Catalina teaches Joy, literally translated, is "Good day, I am here to be your bitch"
At the end of the video that Joy puts together for Darnell there was a little bit of footage of something. That "something" is from the show Yes, Dear (another show of Greg Garcia's). It is the video footage that Greg and Jimmy videotaped of Sam's first steps but they were in a casino when it happened, so they paid someone to put a fake background on the video to cover up where they went.
This episode implemented a new medium called smell-a-vision. The TV screen shows an icon with a number during the episode, and the viewer scratches the matching symbol on the card provided in the April 30-May 6, 2007 issue of TV Guide.
Earl: (To Randy, waking up) Rise and shine, hands off... mine! Randy, hands off mine!
Joy: So 'snap' is 'chasquido.' "Oh, Chasquido" - that'll work.
Darnell: Oh, my god!
Joy: Found one that looks just like me! She takes two triple-A batteries and you can get'em at Dodges Lite Brite. Check that out - she has even got that new car smell. I know how you like that!
Darnell: I do like that smell, but I also like the smell of bacon but I'm not gonna fornicate it.
Earl: I don't know if I mentioned this, but the microwave you bought has a tray that spins around so your food doesn't get tired of the view!
Reggie: Hey rookie, anyone ever teach you the right way to use a broom? You take the handle, put it at a 45 degree angle, lean it against a wall, then sit your ass down and eat some lunch!
Earl: It was my first time on the sales floor, and I had no idea that through those plastic curtains there was a paradise more beautiful than I could ever imagine. They had air conditioning that felt like Frosty the Snowman was blowing kisses up my coveralls. Even the way it smelled was better. Where we had B.O., they had Cinnamon Buns. And, just like the first time I drank chocolate milk and realized I wanted to live my life with a mustache, I knew I wanted to work in the front.
Randy: Hey Earl, someone said Wednesday is 'Hump Day.' I haven't seen any ladies here, so I'll watch your back and you watch mine.
Randy: Man these things smell clean. But they're a little itchy. I wish I would've left my underwear on.
Mr. Waadt: Nice! Wear those colors with pride. You last a month, we sew on a name tag. Make it a year, they're yours to keep.
Randy: Looks like they filled A-9 with popcorn. What are we gonna talk about now?
Billy: B-7 is almost empty.
Earl: (narrating) Realizing that she might actually go to prison, Joy started to prepare. First, she had a garage sale so the family would have money.
Joy: Hey Darnell, guess what?
Darnell: (falling to the ground as he exits their trailer) What?
Joy: I sold the porch!
Earl: (narrating) Then she prepared for getting along with the inmates.
Joy: Listen, I'm gonna need you to teach me how to speak "mexican", so I can talk to the latina gangs when I'm in prison. Because I already know how to speak "black", and I'm not afraid of any asians.
Catalina: Joy, just walk up to the biggest lady you can find and say "Buenos dias, estoy aqui para ser tu perra".
Joy: I heard "bitch" in there! I mean, I'm not stupid. I've been called bitch in every single language there is. Nice try, "be-yotch". That's "black".

Arm & Hammer
Randy: Or that "Arm & Hammer" stuff. My mom always had that in the fridge and it was a terrible snack. No matter how much you eat it doesn't fill you up.
Arm & Hammer is a trademark of American manufacturer Church and Dwight. This brand is associated predominately in the United States with baking soda.
Episode a parody of the theatrical movie "Rudy"...included as guest stars in this episode were Charles Dutton, Sean Astin & Checlie Ross, all of whom starred in "Rudy". Episode included key scenes taken straight from the movie as well, such as the Dutton speech & the employees donating their cards to help Earl make his sales quota.
When Earl is unloading the truck in the rain at the end of that when his arms are raised and rejoicing that he got it done is alluding to the movie The Shawshank Redemption when Andy (Tim Robbins) escapes the prison.
