This was a great and funny storyline. As for the episode's main story, it was wonderfully lightweight. At the carnival Earl meets Reverend Green (Love), whom he recognizes immediately as the pastor he once ripped off. Back in their stealing days, Earl and Randy once heard about a black-market organ ring (it wasn't those kinds of organs) and stole the organ from Reverend Green's church. Reverend Green forgives him, recalling how he used to be a fairly bad due before he became a minister: his nickname was "Hash Brown" because he used to stomp people's faces until they resembled hash browns. What follows are a series of increasing humiliations for Reverend Green, as Earl discovers that he has wronged him several times: he stole the Reverend's tools from a construction site and tipped over the porta-potty he was sitting in, he slept with the Reverend's wife after pretending to be a public defender who could help him get out of jail, and he shot out the Reverend's tail light when he attempted to do some trick shooting. Reverend Green is so infuriated that he reverts back to Hash Brown, steals several church artifacts, including the collection plate, and threatens to return to his life of crime. He reconsiders, however, when he realizes that Earl shooting out his taillight landed him in jail and saved him from getting massacred along with his crew in a bad gun deal. He forgives Earl one last time and both he and Earl become even stronger in their respective faiths. This was a great and funny storyline and it's too bad that it was overshadowed by the B-story, especially since Love gave a hilarious performance. I really think the whole Joy/Catalina storyline should have been saved for its own episode. It was just one last humiliation heaped on poor Reverend Green. Looks like it's time to go Hash Brown on the writers, Reverend.
